Low-temperature single crystal X-ray diffraction and high-pressure Raman studies on [(CH3)2NH2]2[SbCl5]

The structure of bis(dimethylammonium) pentachloroantimonate(III), [(CH{sub 3}){sub 2}NH{sub 2}]{sub 2}[SbCl{sub 5}], BDP, was studied at 15 K and ambient pressure by single-crystal X-ray diffraction as well as at ambient temperature and high pressures up to 4.87(5) GPa by Raman spectroscopy. BDP crystallizes in the orthorhombic Pnma space group with a=8.4069(4), b=11.7973(7), c=14.8496(7) A, and Z=4; R{sub 1}=0.0381, wR{sub 2}=0.0764. The structure consists of distorted [SbCl{sub 6}]{sup 3-} octahedra forming zig-zag [{l_brace}SbCl{sub 5}{r_brace}{sub n}]{sup 2n-} chains that are cross-linked by dimethylammonium [(CH{sub 3}){sub 2}NH{sub 2}]{sup +} cations. Performances Recovery of Flax Fiber Reinforced Composites after Salt-Fog Aging Test

In the present paper, the performance recovery under conditions of discontinuous exposure to a marine environment of a natural fiber-reinforced composite (NFRC) reinforced by flax fibers was assessed. In particular, this laminate was initially exposed to salt-fog for 15 and 30 days, and then stored in a controlled air condition for up to 21 days. The flax fiber-reinforced composite showed coupled reversible and irreversible aging phenomena during the wet stage, as well as evidencing a significant mechanical recovery during the dry stage. Higher-order energy density functionals in nuclear self-consistent theory

In this thesis consisting of two publications and an overview part, a study of two aspects of energy density functionals has been performed. Firstly, we have linked the next-to-next-to-next-to-leading order nuclear energy density functional to a zero-range pseudopotential that includes all possible terms up to sixth order in derivatives. Within the Hartree-Fock approximation, the quasi-local nuclear Energy Density Functional (EDF) has been calculated as the average energy obtained from the pseudopotential. AbstractHerein, the Epoxide Route, a one-pot room temperature alkalinization method based on the reaction between a nucleophile and an epoxide, has been employed to synthesize LaPO4 in the form of a Rhabdophane phase. The intrinsic features of this synthetic approach allow the reaction to be followed by pH monitoring, making possible the identification of the different precipitation steps involved in the formation of the solid. Once demonstrated the effectiveness of this chemical methodology, the size and shape of the LaPO4 particles were controlled by varying the identity and proportion of the organic co-solvents employed to perform the reaction. Fibre fragment distribution in a single-fibre composite tension test

Abstract Single fibre fragmentation tests are performed for brittle fibres with Weibull strength distribution and different surface treatments. The fragmentation process is modelled and closed-form expressions for break spacing distribution are obtained. The model accounts for the effect of finite fibre length on the initial fragmentation as well as for break interaction on the advanced fragmentation stage. It is assumed that the exclusion zone due to fibre–matrix interface failure and stress recovery in the fibre is linearly dependent on the applied load. This assumption is validated experimentally. High-temperature superconducting objects of Bi2Sr2CaCu2O8 and Y Ba2Cu3O7 highly curved in the ab-plane, such as curved/kinked whiskers, bows and ring-like structures, were obtained within a solid?liquid?solid (SLS) grass-like growth mechanism. As-grown objects are crystals with three-dimensional epitaxy similar to conventional single crystals: they can be viewed as crystal parts ?cut? from a conventional rectangular crystal. Between our curved objects and conventional crystals, whiskers or thin films there are some differences in the superconducting properties induced only by the shape factors and no new physics is observed. BODIPY atropisomer interconversion, face discrimination, and superstructure appending

International audience; A strategy was developed to append sterically hindered apical pickets on both faces of the BODIPY platform to prevent stacking and aggregation. Ortho-substitution of both the meso-phenyl ring and the boron-bound catechol affords the right directionality to append pickets, achieve face discrimination, featuring two inter-convertible atropisomers, and is reminiscent of the picket-fence strategy in porphyrins.
