An appropriate bony situation is essential for dental implant placement and bony support of soft tissues (pink esthetic). Optical properties and structure particularities of LiNbO 3 crystals grown from a boron-doped melt

A series of LiNbO3:B crystals was grown from the melt doped by boron. It is shown that LiNbO3:B crystals possess an increased resistance to optical damage. We have found changes according to Raman spectra confirming the ordering of Li+, Nb5+ cations and vacancies along the polar axis. The chemical interactions were studied in the system Li2O–B2O3–Nb2O5. Boron cations are unable to incorporate into a cation sublattice of LiNbO3, but they change the physic-chemical structure of a melt. It contributes to an increased structure and optical uniformity of LiNbO3:B.

Improved method of manufacturing carbon nanotube infused multifunctional 3D woven composites

This research work aimed to develop smart multifunctional composites via a process for uniformly dispersing carbon nanotubes (CNT) on an orthogonal three-dimensional (3D) woven glass fabric with minimised filtering effect. These smart composites could detect strain under tensile and flexural loading by the piezoresistive response of the infused CNT network. Conventional vacuum assisted resin transfer moulding was modified to control the infusion of 0.25 wt% CNT on the 3D woven glass fabric by varying the vacuum pressure. Two multilayered plate models with transverse shear warping functions issued from three dimensional elasticity equations

Abstract A multilayered plate theory which uses transverse shear warping functions is presented. Two methods to obtain the transverse shear warping functions from three-dimensional elasticity equations are proposed. The warping functions are issued from the variations of transverse shear stresses computed at specific points of a simply supported plate. The first method considers an exact 3D solution of the problem. The second method uses the solution provided by the model itself: the transverse shear stresses are computed integrating equilibrium equations. Grain growth in Na 0.5 Bi 0.5 TiO 3 -based solid solutions

This paper discusses effects of different dopants, sintering technique and parameters on microstructure and properties of pure and Yb, Er-doped Na0.5Bi0.5TiO3 (NBT). All stoichiometric compositions follow the abnormal grain growth mechanism (AGG) and exhibit a bimodal grain size distribution. Bi over-stoichiometry, two step sintering and hot pressing are effective inhibitors of AGG. Microstructure of sintered NBT greatly influences such properties as dielectric permittivity and depolarization temperature.

X-ray micro-computed tomography investigation of fibre length degradation during the processing steps of short-fibre composites

The mechanical properties of composites in the fibre direction are mainly attributed to the fibre slenderness, or aspect ratio. A trade-off between performance and processability is usually required, and dependent on the intended application. If the fibre length could be retained or not severely degraded during various processing steps towards the injection-moulded component, a stiffer and stronger composite product could be obtained. Numerical model of macro-segregation during directional crystallization process

Abstract In the paper the mathematical model of macro-segregation proceeding during the directional crystallization process is presented. The boundary-initial problem considered is discussed. Next the numerical approximation constructed on the basis of the boundary element method supplemented by a procedure called the artificial heat source method is described. The boundary condition on the solidification front resulting from the alloy component balance is introduced, while in finally the practical aspects of computations concerning the course of the process are discussed.

Anisotropy and symmetry for elastic properties of laminates reinforced by balanced fabrics

In this article, we present a theoretical study on elastic properties of laminates composed by balanced fabric layers. Using the polar representation method for plane elastic tensors, we first describe some properties of symmetry of a general laminate composed by balanced fabrics and we write the formulas expressing positions of its axes of symmetry. Then, limiting our study to laminates composed of identical plies, we solve two problems of symmetry of the laminate elastic tensors: uncoupling and quasi-homogeneity. A finite element formulation for large deflection of multilayered magneto-electro-elastic plates

An original finite element formulation for the analysis of large deflections in magneto-electro-elastic multilayered plates is presented. The formulation is based on an equivalent single-layer model in which first order shear deformation theory with von Karman strains and quasi-static behavior for the electric and magnetic fields are assumed. To obtain the plate model, the electro-magnetic state is firstly determined and condensed to the mechanical primary variables, namely the generalized displacements.
