Array CGH defined interstitial deletion on chromosome 14: a new case

2009

Interstitial deletions of the long arm of chromosome 14 are relatively rare. We report a 8.5-year-old girl with dysmorphic facial features and mental retardation associated with a de novo interstitial deletion of chromosome 14. The comparison between our patient and all published patients is reviewed. The genetic investigations have allowed us to define the critical chromosomal region and to start an accurate follow-up.

BIOMARKERS OF UROTHELIAL DAMAGE IN PATIENTS TREATED BY ADJUVANT INTRAVESICAL THERAPY

2013

Introduction/Aim: Chemotherapy or BCG given intravesically to prevent recurrence after transurethral resection (TUR) of non-muscle invasive bladder cancer (NMI-BC) cause frequent, sometime severe, local toxicity. As a consequence, many patients do not complete the planned treatment (1). A major challenge for the urologists is to identify an early biomarker of urothelial damage to recognize and prevent local toxicity improving patient’s compliance. The purpose of our research was to investigate the relation between urothelial injury by intravesical treatment and the expression of potential biomarkers in urine and/or in barbotage solution. The urinary HB-EGF expression in interstitial cystiti…

COMPLIANCE WITH ONE YEAR MAINTENANCE INTRAVESICAL BCG IN PATIENTS AFFECTED BY T1G3 BLADDER CANCER

2013

Introduction: BCG maintenance for at least one year is the best regimen for prevention of recurrence and progression in high risk non muscle invasive bladder cancer (NMIBC), undergoing conservative approach. Noteworthy, a relevant number of patients do not complete the planned treatment interruption. Study aim was to analyze retrospectively the reasons of treatment. Patients and Methods: Consecutive patients affected by T1G3 BC, undergoing BCG maintenance for one year, according to the SWOG schedule (3 weekly instillations at 3, 6, 12 months) were included in this study. Connaught BCG (81 mg/50 ml) was given starting 1430 days after TUR. If toxicity occurred, treatment was postponed up to t…

On the use of Denoising Autoencoders and Deep Convolutional Adversarial Networks for Automated Removal of Date Stamps

2019

Master's thesis Information- and communication technology IKT590 - University of Agder 2019 This thesis investigates to what extent the deep learning models such as DenoisingAutoencoder (DAE) and Deep Convolution General Adversarial Net (DCGAN)automate the removal of the date stamps from images with high resolution whilepreserving the rest of the images. Both DAE and DCGAN algorithms are im-plemented with Convolutional Neural Networks (CNN). The DAE algorithm canperform this task with entirely satisfactory results. The DAE can reconstruct theoriginal images from corrupted inputs with date stamps. While DCGAN deliverspoor yet interesting results. The images generated by the DCGAN are quite d…

A Worldwide Perspective on COVID-19 and Diabetes Management in 22,820 Children from the SWEET Project: Diabetic Ketoacidosis Rates Increase and Glyce…

2021

Aims: To investigate the short-term effects of the first wave of COVID-19 on clinical parameters in children with type 1 diabetes (T1D) from 82 worldwide centers participating in the Better Control in Pediatric and Adolescent DiabeteS: Working to CrEate CEnTers of Reference (SWEET) registry. Materials and Methods: Aggregated data per person with T1D £21 years of age were compared between May/June 2020 (first wave), August/September 2020 (after wave), and the same periods in 2019. Hierarchic linear and logistic regression models were applied. Models were adjusted for gender, age-, and diabetes duration-groups. To distinguish the added burden of the COVID-19 pandemic, the centers were divided…
