Transient receptor potential-vanilloid type-1 (TRPV1) is a ligand-gated cation channel with preference for divalent cations, especially Ca(2+) (sequence of conductances: Ca(2+)Mg(2+)Na(+) approximately/= K(+) approximately/= Cs(+)). In the present study, the two-electrode voltage-clamp technique was used on oocytes of Xenopus laevis expressing TRPV1 to evaluate whether human TRPV1 also conducts protons. In medium devoid of K(+), Na(+), Mg(2+), and Ca(2+), capsaicin 1 microM induced a significant inward current (62% of the current in physiological medium). Inherited ectopia lentis (EL) is most commonly caused by Marfan syndrome (MFS), a multisystemic disorder caused by mutations in FBN1. Historically the diagnosis for patients with EL who have no systemic features of MFS is isolated EL (IEL). However, the Ghent nosology for MFS was updated in 2010 and made some important alterations. In particular, patients with EL and a FBN1 mutation are now categorically diagnosed with MFS, if their mutation has previously been described with aortic dilation/dissection. Feminism is a fast growing phenomenon in recent years. This paper started with the historical conflict of marriage and feminism, then researched the connection between anime and gender-role. Since Japanese anime was imported to China in 1980s, it has influenced the generation born in 1980s and 1990s in many aspects of their growth. These well-educated people perceived the Japanese culture and values through anime. This study connected gender stereotypes and marriage, and how Chinese well-educated anime fans interpret the gender-role portrayals from anime. Cross-lagged relationships between home learning environment and academic achievement in Chinese

Abstract We examined (a) the cross-lagged relationships between the home learning environment and academic achievement in Chinese, and (b) whether parents’ socioeconomic status (SES) and child's gender moderate the relations. One hundred seventy-seven Chinese children were followed from Grade 1 to Grade 2 and were assessed on reading and mathematics. Their parents also responded to a questionnaire assessing the frequency of engaging in different home literacy and numeracy activities. Results showed that reading ability in Grade 1 negatively predicted informal home literacy activities in Grade 2. This paper explores the intercultural communication, cultural adjustment strategies and power relations between Finnish and Chinese representatives in the context of Chinese investment facilitation in Finland. The study is mostly based on interviews of individuals who work either for one of Finland’s state agencies tasked with attracting investment or local government. When analyzing aspects of power, the paper’s theoretical basis is the Positioning Theory of Harré (1991).
