The purpose of this study was to adopt the Emotions Course (EC) in the Italian context and to examine preliminarily its effectiveness in accelerating the social-emotional competence and reducing maladaptive behaviors in preschool children. Effect of a Killer Toxin of Yeast on Eucaryotic Systems

The Saccharomyces cerevisiae killer toxin KT 28, which inhibits sensitive yeasts, was shown to have no effect on several pathogenic fungi or on the protozoan Trichomonas vaginalis. At concentrations of about 0.1 mg/ml, a partial inhibition of the skin pathogenic fungi Trichophyton rubrum and Microsporum canis was observed at pH 6.5. No pharmacological activity was detected in various tests with several animal organs.

Sokolov's neural trace model as well as his entropy model of the orienting response are examined. Both seem inadequate for empirical and theoretical reasons. The role of the relevance aspect of a stimulus is stressed. It is proposed to consider the information transmitted by a stimulus as in some way being weighted by the relevance of the context to which it belongs. It is furthermore proposed to restrict the neural trace concept to the physical properties of the stimulus. EST sequencing of Onychophora and phylogenomic analysis of Metazoa

Onychophora (velvet worms) represent a small animal taxon considered to be related to Euarthropoda. We have obtained 1873 5' cDNA sequences (expressed sequence tags, ESTs) from the velvet worm Epiperipatus sp., which were assembled into 833 contigs. BLAST similarity searches revealed that 51.9% of the contigs had matches in the protein databases with expectation values lower than 10(-4). Most ESTs had the best hit with proteins from either Chordata or Arthropoda (approximately 40% respectively). The ESTs included sequences of 27 ribosomal proteins.
