Abstract A series of polysubstituted naphthohydroquinoid tricarbonyl chromium complexes were prepared by chromium mediated [3+2+1]-benzannulation of Fischer-type carbene complexes with alkynes. The kinetics and the thermodynamic data of the η6-η6-haptotropic rearrangements were investigated by in-situ NMR spectroscopy. The free activation energies ΔG# range from 23 to 26 kcal mol−1 and only slightly depend on the bulk and the donor/acceptor properties of the substituents. Novel synthesis of spherical MCM-48

Abstract A novel synthesis route was developed for the cubic member of the M41S family, MCM-48, with a three-dimensional pore system allowing the formation of submicrometre- to micrometre-sized beads with a narrow pore-size distribution. The synthesis is based on the modified Stober method applying tetraethoxysilane, ethanol, water, ammonia and n -hexadecyltrimethylammonium bromide as template. The specific surface area, the specific pore volume and the average pore diameter were varied in the following ranges: 900–1600 m 2  g −1 , 0.5–0.9 cm 3  g −1 and 2–3 nm. Aluminium-, chromium-, gallium-, niobium- and vanadium-MCM-48 were also synthesized following this procedure.

The chloro‐substituent enhances performance of 2,4‐bis (imino)pyridylchromium catalysts yielding highly linear polyethylene

The five unsymmetrical 2‐[1‐(2,4‐dibenzhydryl‐6‐chlorophenylimino)ethyl]‐6‐[1‐(arylimino)ethyl]pyridine compounds (aryl: 2,6‐Me2Ph L1 , 2,6‐Et2Ph L2 , 2,6‐i Pr2Ph L3 , 2,4,6‐Me3Ph L4 and 2,6‐Et2–4‐MePh L5 ) were prepared and characterized with FT‐IR and 1H/13C NMR spectroscopy as well as elemental analysis. The treatment of L1 – L5 with CrCl3·3THF affords the corresponding chromium chloride complexes (Cr1 – Cr5 ) in excellent yields. The molecular structures of Cr2 and Cr3 characterized by X‐ray diffraction show a distorted octahedral geometry with three nitrogen atoms and three chlorine atoms around the metal center. Speciation of Cr in Leachates of a MSWI Bottom Ash Landfill

Cr concentrations and speciation were determined in leachate from a municipal solid waste incinerator bottom ash landfill both experimentally and by thermodynamic model calculations. Total dissolved Cr concentrations of 0.2 mmol L-1 were determined by GFAAS. Two orders of magnitude lower values were determined upon preconcentration by an in-situ solid-phase extraction technique based on the 8-HQ cation exchanger that is specific for Cr(III) but unspecific for Cr(VI). This suggests that chromate dominates the dissolved Cr concentrations in the leachates but was up to 5 orders of magnitude undersaturated with respect to the solubility of CaCrO4 or BaCrO4. Atomic Absorption Spectrophotometric Determination of Cobalt in Foods

A method is reported for determination of chromium in foodstuffs. Organic matter is digested with nitric acid, followed by oxidation to Cr(VI) and extraction with methyl isobutyl ketone (MIBK) after HCl addition. Chromium determinations are performed by flame absorption spectroscopy. Absence of interferences is verified and recovery tests are performed on food samples. Quantitation limit (3.8 ng/mL), accuracy (NBS Standard Reference Material 1,573 Tomato Leaves, 4,500 +/- 500 ng/g, found 3,860 +/- 409 ng/g), and precision (CV for vegetable matrix = 9.05%, CV for animal matrix = 14.95%) of the procedure are evaluated.

Analytical methodologies for chromium speciation in solid matrices: a survey of literature

The analytical literature about chromium speciation in solid samples has been surveyed. From 451 articles published on the speciation of chromium from 1983 to 1997, the methodologies to do speciation in solids after sample pretreatment are discussed, through consideration of the types of samples and their dissolution, the analytical techniques employed for chromium measurement, and the figures of merit of the 86 papers reported in the Analytical Abstracts data base.

Effect of pruning-derived biochar on heavy metals removal and water dynamics

Biomass-derived biochar is considered as a promising heavy metal adsorbent, due to abundance of polar functional groups, such as carboxylic, hydroxyl, and amino groups, which are available for heavy metal removal. The aims of this study were to evaluate the effectiveness of an orchard pruning-derived biochar in removing some heavy metals (through the evaluation of isotherms) and to study water dynamics at the solid-liquid interface as affected by heavy metal adsorption (through an innovative nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) relaxometry approach). A new selective fluorogenic probe for trivalent cations.

[EN] A new selective chromo-fluorogenic probe for Fe 3+, Cr 3+ and Al 3+ is reported. Detection limits are in the ¿M range and the fluorogenic sensing ability could be observed by the naked eye when illuminated with UV-light.
