Physiological responses of running intermittent exercises
2012
The aims of the present work were to analyze the physiological responses during intermittent exercise and to determine; i) an field test to assess the maximal aerobic velocity (MAV) for intermittent exercise; ii) the type of intermittent exercise could elicit maximal oxygen uptake (VO2max); iii) the physiological and neuromuscular factors that could limit intermittent exercise duration. The first study demonstrated that the MAV (MAV45-15) reached at the end of an incremental intermittent (45s run/ 15s rest) field test (45-15FIT) was relevant to elicit a high percentage of VO2max during a 30s-30s intermittent training session. The second and third studies demonstrated that intermittent exerci…
Inactivation and tachyphylaxis of heat-evoked inward currents in nociceptive primary sensory neurones of rats.
2000
In contrast to other sensory modalities, pain does not decrease when a noxious stimulus is applied at constant intensity (Greene & Hardy, 1962). From this lack of adaptation on the perceptive level it has traditionally been implied that primary nociceptive afferents also do not adapt upon constant stimulation. This is in contrast to the results of recordings from these afferents, which exhibit pronounced adaptation for physical as well as chemical stimuli (Meyer et al. 1994). Peripheral adaptation of nociceptive nerve endings is compensated by central summation (Mendell & Wall, 1965; Price et al. 1977); this slow summation process of small fibre input to the dorsal horn of the spinal cord i…
Nota sul programma ciceroniano di ius civile ad artem redigere
2021
The author offers an interpretation of the fragment of Cicero's work 'De iure civili in arte redigendo' preserved by Aulus Gellius and makes an analysis of some passages of the De oratore relating to the program of isagogical arrangement of ius civile on a dialectical basis, highlighting, in particular, the peculiar significance of the desired reduction to a few 'genera', which scholars have so far overlooked.
Production of functional probiotic, prebiotic, and synbiotic ice creams
2010
In this work, 3 types of ice cream were produced: a probiotic ice cream produced by adding potentially probiotic microorganisms such as Lactobacillus casei and Lactobacillus rhamnosus; a prebiotic ice cream produced by adding inulin, a prebiotic substrate; and a synbiotic ice cream produced by adding probiotic microorganisms and inulin in combination. In addition to microbial counts, pH, acidity, and physical and functional properties of the ice creams were evaluated. The experimental ice creams preserved the probiotic bacteria and had counts of viable lactic acid bacteria, after frozen storage that met the minimum required to achieve probiotic effects. Moreover; most of the ice creams show…

Immunohistochemical expression and distribution of orexin, orphanin and leptin in the major salivary glands of some mammals
2012
Abstract: The aim of the study was to assess the involvement of apoptotic factors, cytokeratins and metalloproteinase- 9 in the histogenesis of both Epithelialized Gingival Lesions (EGL) and Periapical Lesions (PAL). 55 consecutive patients, 30 with PAL and 25 with EGL, were selected for the study after clinical and radiological examinations. The PAL patients had severe periapical lesions and tooth decay with exposure of the pulp chamber. All PAL and EGL biopsies were surgically extracted, fixed in 10% buffered formalin, and processed for routine light microscopy. Ten biopsies of each category were processed for immunohistochemistry (IHC). Serial paraffin sections were stained by IHC with a…
La tradizione manoscritta delle Tusculanae disputationes di Cicerone nei secoli XVI-XVIII
2012
This note comes from a not recent research on the catalogues of ‘Vatican Wall’ about Cicero’s Tusculanae disputationes in the codes of 16th-18th centuries. Now it has been reviewed and increased with the help of special staff in the various libraries. It hasn’t got particular suggestions about the ciceronian text or other things, but it is a way for the scholars who want to proceed and evaluate specifically provided elements from it.
‘Abitare negli occhi’: Cicerone, Verre, Lilibeo
2022
Speaking of Cicero in Lilibeo means recalling one of the most famous processes that antiquity gives us, those Verrines that mark, if not the debut of the young Arpinate on the political scene in Rome, the highest moment of…
Lilibeo al tempo di Cicerone
2021
The volume that sees the light today is the fruit of the Study Day on "Lilibeo at the time of Cicero" held in Marsala, in the conference room of the Museo Lilibeo, on 3 May 2019 thanks to the joint effort of the Museum and the Culture and Society Department of the University of Palermo. In the short term, important changes in the council organizational structure, they led to the establishment of the Archaeological Park of Lilibeo including in a unitary structure the Lilibeo Regional Archaeological Museum, the archaeological area of Capo Boeo, which represents the main nucleus, and other state-owned archaeological areas of the urban fabric of Marsala.
