On the performance of joint processing schemes over the cluster area
2010
Analyses of Dual Polarization WDM and SCM Radio over Fiber and Radio over FSO for C-RAN Architecture
2016
Creative Project-based learning to boost technology innovation
2017
This paper shows the results of the application of a project-based learning methodology that blended flipped classroom and face-to-face sessions, along with creativity and lateral thinking techniques, to integrate the expected concepts and procedures of technology innovation and boost entrepreneurship among students of Master?s degree in chemical engineering. The constructive alignment between the expected learning outcomes and skills with the proposed activities and assessment methods was decisive in the design of the methodology, which tractor activity was the creation of an innovation project. The use of techniques of creativity promoted lateral thinking and originality in the definition…
Control de micotoxines en cereals i derivats per cromatografia liquida espectrometria de masses : avaluació de les ingestes
2012
Mycotoxins are secondary metabolites produced by few fungal species that readily colonize crops and contaminate them with toxins in the field or after harvest. Surveillance studies have showed that mycotoxin contamination is a world-wide problem, since it is estimated that 25% of the world's crop production and 20% of crop production within the European Union may be contaminated with these contaminants. Economic losses deriving from that are tremendous, including reduction of livestock production and agricultural production, health care, veterinary and regulatory costs. The methods described in this Thesis for the extraction of mycotoxins from cereal and derivates used conventional techniqu…
Approaching sales forecasting using recurrent neural networks and transformers
2022
Accurate and fast demand forecast is one of the hot topics in supply chain for enabling the precise execution of the corresponding downstream processes (inbound and outbound planning, inventory placement, network planning, etc). We develop three alternatives to tackle the problem of forecasting the customer sales at day/store/item level using deep learning techniques and the Corporaci\'on Favorita data set, published as part of a Kaggle competition. Our empirical results show how good performance can be achieved by using a simple sequence to sequence architecture with minimal data preprocessing effort. Additionally, we describe a training trick for making the model more time independent and…
An Open-set Recognition and Few-Shot Learning Dataset for Audio Event Classification in Domestic Environments
2020
The problem of training with a small set of positive samples is known as few-shot learning (FSL). It is widely known that traditional deep learning (DL) algorithms usually show very good performance when trained with large datasets. However, in many applications, it is not possible to obtain such a high number of samples. In the image domain, typical FSL applications include those related to face recognition. In the audio domain, music fraud or speaker recognition can be clearly benefited from FSL methods. This paper deals with the application of FSL to the detection of specific and intentional acoustic events given by different types of sound alarms, such as door bells or fire alarms, usin…

Boosting Protein Encapsulation through Lewis-Acid-Mediated Metal–Organic Framework Mineralization: Toward Effective Intracellular Delivery
2022
Encapsulation of biomolecules using metal–organic frameworks (MOFs) to form stable biocomposites has been demonstrated to be a valuable strategy for their preservation and controlled release, which has been however restricted to specific electrostatic surface conditions. We present a Lewis-acid-mediated general in situ strategy that promotes the spontaneous MOF growth on a broad variety of proteins, for the first time, regardless of their surface nature. We demonstrate that MOFs based on cations exhibiting considerable inherent acidity such as MIL-100(Fe) enable efficient biomolecule encapsulation, including elusive alkaline proteins previously inaccessible by the well-developed in situ azo…
Phase Transitions of BiVO4 under High Pressure and High Temperature
2022
We have studied the occurrence of phase transitions in two polymorphs of BiVO4 under high-pressure and high-temperature conditions by means of X-ray diffraction measurements. The fergusonite polymorph undergoes a phase transition at 1.5(1) GPa and room temperature into a tetragonal scheelite-type structure. The same transition takes place at 523(1) K and ambient pressure. A second phase transition takes place at room temperature under compression at 16(1) GPa. The transition is from the tetragonal scheelite structure to a monoclinic structure (space group P21/c). All observed phase transitions are reversible. The zircon polymorph counterpart also transforms under compression into the scheel…
Short Photoluminescence Lifetimes Linked to Crystallite Dimensions, Connectivity, and Perovskite Crystal Phases.
2022
Time-correlated single photon counting has been conducted to gain further insights into the short photoluminescence lifetimes (nanosecond) of lead iodide perovskite (MAPbI3) thin films (∼100 nm). We analyze three different morphologies, compact layer, isolated island, and connected large grain films, from 14 to 300 K using a laser excitation power of 370 nJ/cm2. Lifetime fittings from the Generalized Berberan-Santos decay model range from 0.5 to 6.5 ns, pointing to quasi-direct bandgap emission despite the three different sample strains. The high energy band emission for the isolated-island morphology shows fast recombination rate centers up to 4.8 ns–1, compared to the less than 2 ns–1 for…
