In the information society, algorithms are increasingly employed to take crucial decisions that affect people’s life. By including, excluding, classifying and ranking, algorithms decide prizes and penalties, benefits and liabilities, both in the private and in the public sector: health, employment, education, finance, housing, and even criminal justice. Despite being often presented as scientific, objective and neutral, made of numbers, rules and data, this is rarely the case: in fact, algorithms adopt predictive models which involve critical judgements based on questionable opinions, beliefs, values, biases and sometimes prejudices. The abandoned work is a form of voluntary incompletion because the interruption of the writing process is decided by the author himself. Abandonment is preceded by considerations and traces that make the process intelligible, especially when identified in avant-textual documents in which the author often not only plans the construction of the text but also reasons about it by tracing the criticalities that condition its progress. The article aims to reflect on some aspects of Georges Perec's abandoned works, showing how these are integrated within the completed works through the processes of dissemination and proliferation.

Experimental studies emphasize the importance of homeostatic plasticity as a mean of stabilizing the properties of neural circuits. In the present work we combined two techniques able to produce short-term (5-Hz repetitive transcranial magnetic stimulation, rTMS) and long-term (transcranial direct current stimulation, tDCS) effects on corticospinal excitability to evaluate whether and how the effects of 5-Hz rTMS can be tuned by tDCS preconditioning. This study focuses on decision-making within operational teams. Grounding our argumentation on group decision-making literature, we argue that adverse behavior patterns may affect the way in which consensus is achieved within the team, and that team performance has an inverted U-shaped relationship with the level of consensus. Then, by relying on leadership literature, we pose the hypothesis that the level of shared leadership inside the group moderates this U-shaped relationship. In patients with hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) meeting the Milan criteria (MC), the benefit of locoregional therapies (LRTs) in the context of liver transplantation (LT) is still debated. Initial biases in the selection between treated and untreated patients have yielded conflicting reported results. Recognition of oxovanadium(V) species and its separation from other metal species through selective complexation by some acyclic ligands

Acyclic molecules possessing –OH (phenoxo and alkoxo type) groups and imine or amine moieties have been developed to sense the specific preference for VO3+ species. These molecules also showed a capability to quantitatively separate oxovanadium(V) species from a reaction mixture containing metal species of V, Mo, U, Fe, and Mn ions in solution. A cascade quantitative separation of VO3+ followed by cis–MoO2+2 followed by trans –UO2+2 species is demonstrated from their mixture. Synthesis and structural details of oxo-species of vanadium molybdenum and uranium are also discussed. Factors influencing the complexation of these molecules towards oxo metal species of V, Mo and U are also addressed.
