RC Columns Strengthened with Steel Angles and Battens: Experimental Results and Design Procedure

In this paper, an analytical model for the design of axially loaded strengthened RC columns with steel angles and battens is presented. Cases of directly loaded and not directly loaded steel angles are considered. The model considers the contribution in confinement pressures caused by transverse battens and steel angles and the contribution in terms of the load-carrying capacity of steel angles subjected to axial force and the bending moment. An experimental investigation on the compressive behavior of eight short, confined, RC columns externally strengthened with steel angles and steel battens with various pitches was carried out, and has been utilized as support for the analytical model. …

In both episcopal cities studied here, Auxerre and Autun, in Burgundy, the sites chosen for the establishment of monasteries can be partly determined by their functions, more or less restrictive. The most frequent in the cities are communities of monks settled in the seventh-eighth centuries to serve a funerary basilica or a tomb. This function involves an extra muros situation whatever the age of the foundation of the basilica. Inside the cities, truly monasteries, that is to say, communities of ascetics, are few; these are located outside the walls, but, although isolated from the city by the rampart, these remain in contact with it by symbolic functions. We report on the experience of two citizen science projects: the Project “Caulerpa cylindracea – Egadi Islands” and the Project “Invasive Algae”, included within the “Seawatchers” platform. The first one, sponsored by the STEBICEF Department of the University of Palermo and by the Egadi Islands Marine Protected Area (MPA), aims at creating a database on the spread dynamics of C. cylindracea within the Egadi Islands MPA. The second one, coordinated by the Institute of Marine Sciences of Barcelona (CSIC, Spain), collects data on 10 marine invasive alien species. The aim of the present study is to investigate the chemical profile, antioxidant activity, carbohydrate-hydrolysing enzyme inhibition, and hypolipidemic effect of essential oils (EOs) extracted from Sicilian Citrus maxima (pomelo) flavedo. Using gas-chromatography-mass spectrometry analysis (GC-MS) we analysed the Eos of five cultivars of C. maxima, namely, ‘Chadock’, ‘Maxima’, ‘Pyriformis’, ‘Terracciani’, and ‘Todarii’, and their blends. La vicenda della progettazione della sede definitiva dell’Aula dei Deputati del Parlamento Italiano a Palazzo Montecitorio di Roma copre una stagione nevralgica della cinquantennale attività professionale di Ernesto Basile (Palermo 1857-1932); iniziata con il primo incarico, invero quasi interlocutorio, del 1902 questa stagione si svolge quasi ininterrottamente fino al 1910, quando Basile redige il progetto per la variante definitiva dei prospetti, dopo aver elaborato nel 1908 il progetto esecutivo dell’intera fabbrica dell’ampliamento dell’originario Palazzo Ludovisi a Montecitorio. Fascioliasis is caused by the genetically and phenotypically very close Fasciola hepatica and F. gigantica. The latter, always considered secondary in human infection, appears nowadays increasingly involved in human endemic areas of Africa and Asia.
