Identifying territories using presence-only citizen science data : An application to the Finnish wolf population

Citizens, community groups and local institutions participate in voluntary biological monitoring of population status and trends by providing species data e.g. for regulations and conservation. Sophisticated statistical methods are required to unlock the potential of such data in the assessment of wildlife populations. We develop a statistical modelling framework for identifying territories based on presence-only citizen science data. The framework can be used to jointly estimate the number of active animal territories and their locations in time. In Apologia Apuleius’s speech shows a rich ‘geography’: private homes, shops, villas and inns are the ingredients of a rhetorical strategy aimed at emphasizing the cultural and ethical distance between accusation and defense. An important role is played by the topical contrast between the country and the city, used to make a strong impact on the public and on the judge and to dismantle and discredit 'a priori' the accusations. In Apologia, therefore, the places are not only the background to the trial but are also conceived as a scenery of the word and as a ‘visual’ instrument to outline the parties involved.

Activation of c-Jun N-terminal kinases (JNKs) and nuclear factor-kappaB (NF-kappaB) are early cellular responses to genotoxic stress involved in the regulation of gene expression. Pretreatment of cells with the hydroxymethyl glutaryl-CoA reductase inhibitor lovastatin blocked stimulation of JNK1 activity by UV irradiation and by treatment with the alkylating compound methyl methanesulfonate but did not affect activation of extracellular signal-regulated kinase 2 by UV light. Lovastatin also attenuated UV-induced degradation of the NF-kappaB inhibitor IkappaBalpha. Trattamento riabilitativo interventistico ecoguidato nella fascite plantare

Con il termine "fascite plantare" si intende un processo infiammatorio della aponeurosi o fascia plantare, strettamente correlato ai microtraumi che il piede sopporta durante la falcata. Nel periodo compreso tra giugno 2011 e gennaio 2013 sono stati reclutati presso l'U.O.C di Riabilitazione dell'A.O.U.P. Paolo Giaccone, 78 pazienti affetti da fascite plantare monolaterale e trattati con 3 infiltrazioni di metilprednisolone acetato e lidocaina in sede dolorosa sull'inserzione calcaneare della fascia sotto guida ecografica e prescrizione di un'ortesi plantare. I dati ottenuti dimostrano risultati soddisfacenti nella riduzione della sintomatologia algica nel breve, medio e lungo termine.

Giuseppe Samonà nel 1976, con piena consapevolezza sulla già allora strutturata condizione di crisi agricola produttivo-occupazionale introduceva il concetto di “città in estensione” rileggendo, in chiave innovativa, alcune delle visioni utopiche di fine Ottocento.
