Il capitolo effettua un'ampia ricognizione delle smart city nel mondo, dagli esempi europei più noti alle smart city nelle città asiatiche. Da Masdar negli Emirati Arabi a Stoccolma, che in questi ultimi anni ha rigenerato con un'ottica smart interi quartieri (Hammarby Syostad e il Royal Seaport), cambiando complessivamente il volto della città. Il capitolo in questa terza edizione dedica un'attenzione speciale alle città asiatiche - la Cina ad esempio - che oggi si confrontano con profondi mutamenti socio-economici e imponenti e veloci fenomeni di urbanizzazione.

The practical implementation of the goals of smart sustainable cities has different forms. This paper explores an example of the Danish smart city Aarhus, through which the so-called ‘Scandinavian third way’ of smart city development is being proposed.
