Economic Aspects of Hybrid Cloud Infrastructure: User Organization Perspective

2012

Adoption of cloud infrastructure promises enterprises numerous bene- ts, such as faster time-to-market and improved scalability enabled by on-demand provisioning of pooled and shared computing resources. In particular, hybrid clouds, by combining the private in-house capacity with the on-demand capacity of public clouds, promise to achieve both increased utilization rate of the in-house infrastructure and limited use of the more expensive public cloud, thereby lowering the total costs for a cloud user organization. In this paper, an analytical model of hybrid cloud costs is introduced, wherein the costs of computing and data communication are taken into account. Using this model, a cost-e c…

Spin Crossover and Long-Lived Excited States in a Reduced Molecular Ruby.

2020

Abstract The chromium(III) complex [CrIII(ddpd)2]3+ (molecular ruby; ddpd=N,N′‐dimethyl‐N,N′‐dipyridine‐2‐yl‐pyridine‐2,6‐diamine) is reduced to the genuine chromium(II) complex [CrII(ddpd)2]2+ with d4 electron configuration. This reduced molecular ruby represents one of the very few chromium(II) complexes showing spin crossover (SCO). The reversible SCO is gradual with T 1/2 around room temperature. The low‐spin and high‐spin chromium(II) isomers exhibit distinct spectroscopic and structural properties (UV/Vis/NIR, IR, EPR spectroscopies, single‐crystal XRD). Excitation of [CrII(ddpd)2]2+ with UV light at 20 and 290 K generates electronically excited states with microsecond lifetimes. This…

Representations of nationality in Carl Barks' Lost in the Andes and Voodoo hoodoo

2013

Tutkielman tarkoituksena oli selvittää, miten kansallisuus ja ei-amerikkalaiset hahmot on esitetty Carl Barksin ankkatarinoissa Lost in the Andes ja Voodoo Hoodoo. Tutkielman perustana toimivat Scott McCloudin ja Juha Herkmanin sarjakuvia käsittelevät teokset sekä kansallisten stereotypioiden tutkimus. Sarjakuvat analysoitiin hyödyntäen McCloudin ja Herkmanin määritelmiä sarjakuvien eri elementeistä. Tutkimuksessa kävi ilmi, että paikalliset, ei-yhdysvaltalaiset hahmot on kuvattu yksipuolisesti, miesvaltaisesti ja muutamaa piirrettä korostaen kunkin kansallisuuden kohdalla. Esilletulleita seikkoja olivat muunmuassa hahmojen vaatetus, kasvonpiirteet, luonne sekä käyttäytyminen. Nämä piirteet…

The implications of teachers’ implicit theories for moral education: A case study from Finland

2017

Implicit theories concerning the malleability of human qualities are known to have a powerful impact on motivation and learning, but their role in moral education is an under-researched topic. In this qualitative case study, we examined the impact of implicit theories on four Finnish teachers’ practices of teaching morally and in teaching morality. The data include preliminary and stimulated recall interviews (STR) as well as classroom observations. Our results demonstrate the multiple ways in which teachers’ implicit beliefs are communicated to students and influence teacher’s interpretations and endeavors to educate the ethical capabilities of students. The study provides evidence for the…
