Sharpness of Rickman’s Picard theorem in all dimensions

2015

We show that given \({n \geqslant 3}\), \({q \geqslant 1}\), and a finite set \({\{y_1, \ldots, y_q \}}\) in \({\mathbb{R}^n}\) there exists a quasiregular mapping \({\mathbb{R}^n\to \mathbb{R}^n}\) omitting exactly points \({y_1, \ldots, y_q}\).

Fused Dibenzo[ a , m ]rubicene: A New Bowl-Shaped Subunit of C 70 Containing Two Pentagons

2016

Total synthetic approaches of fullerenes are the holy grail for organic chemistry. So far, the main attempts have focused on the synthesis of the buckminsterfullerene C60. In contrast, access to subunits of the homologue C70 remains challenging. Here, we demonstrate an efficient bottom-up strategy toward a novel bowl-shaped polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAH) C34 with two pentagons. This PAH represents a subunit for C70 and of other higher fullerenes. The bowl-shaped structure was unambiguously determined by X-ray crystallography. A bowl-to-bowl inversion for a C70 fragment in solution was investigated by dynamic NMR analysis, showing a bowl-to-bowl inversion energy (ΔG(⧧)) of 16.7 kcal …

Single and Multiple Additions of Dibenzoylmethane onto Buckminsterfullerene

2013

A novel dibenzoylmethane-fullerene e,e,e-tris adduct was synthesized by the application of a variation of the Bingel–Hirsch conditions and characterized among others by X-ray crystallography. In addition, the corresponding hexakis adduct was detected by MALDI-TOF-MS analysis. Its existence was supported by density-functional-theory (DFT) computations. Furthermore a new synthesis of bis(benzoyl)methanofullerene was established, and its molecular structure was elucidated by X-ray crystallography. DFT computations reproduced the experimentally determined conformation and predict a low energy barrier for the rotation of the two benzoyl moieties.

Theoretical prediction of the electronic properties of silicon fullerenes

1994

Summary form only given. High symmetry silicon clusters present currently intense interest because of the possibility they present properties similar to those displayed by fullerenes. Thermodynamic studies have shown that the buckminsterfullerene structure of Si6o is much more stable than other suggested structures. We present here a detailed investigation of the structure and electronic properties of silicon cluster analogous to fullerenes. We have made use of AMI method to obtain reliable geometrical parameters. The calculated valence effective Hamiltonian (VEH) electronic structures are used to predict ionization potentials, electron affinities, HOMO-LUMO energy gaps and first allowed tr…

Gray code for permutations with a fixed number of cycles

2007

AbstractWe give the first Gray code for the set of n-length permutations with a given number of cycles. In this code, each permutation is transformed into its successor by a product with a cycle of length three, which is optimal. If we represent each permutation by its transposition array then the obtained list still remains a Gray code and this allows us to construct a constant amortized time (CAT) algorithm for generating these codes. Also, Gray code and generating algorithm for n-length permutations with fixed number of left-to-right minima are discussed.

Health-related quality of life (HRQOL) in patients (pts) with advanced gastric cancer/gastroesophageal junction cancer (GC/GEJC) or esophageal adenoc…

2021

4066 Background: CheckMate 649 (NCT02872116) is a randomized, open label phase 3 study in first line (1L) GC/GEJC/EAC. Prespecified interim results showed statistically significant improvement in overall survival (OS) and progression-free survival (PFS) for N+C vs C in all randomized pts and pts whose tumors expressed programmed death-ligand 1 combined positive score (CPS) ≥ 5. We present interim HRQOL results for CPS ≥ 5 pts, included as exploratory in the study. Methods: HRQOL was assessed using EQ-5D-3L (EQ-5D) and Functional Assessment of Cancer Therapy–Gastric Cancer (FACT-Ga). Assessments were performed at baseline (BL), every 6 weeks during treatment, and during follow-up. Change fr…

Lewis acid-catalyzed Beckmann rearrangement of ketoximes in ionic liquids

2009

Abstract The Beckmann rearrangement of five ketoximes was done in 17 different ionic liquids by using four Lewis acids. The effect of the type of cation and the type of anion in the ionic liquid on the rate of the rearrangement reaction and product composition is compared and discussed. The effects of the hydrophobicity and the hydrogen bonding ability of ionic liquids on the rearrangement of ketoximes were investigated, as well as the catalytical activity of the Lewis acids.

Behaviour of Nanomaterials in the Environment: A Study of Interaction between Humic Acids and Fullerene C60

2010

Interaction between buckminsterfullerene and humic substances of different origin was investigated using fluorescence spectrometry as function of concentration of humic substances, pH and ionic strength. Binding constants of humic substances and buckminsterfullerene were calculated. It can be suggested that the complexation was driven by hydrophobic interaction depending on properties of the interacting compounds. Hydrophobic interaction model was indicated by linear Stern–Volmer plot, and high Kd values characterized interaction between buckminsterfullerene and humic acids. The results of this study support the development of understanding of fate of nanomaterials in environment as well as…

Recurrent bacteraemia by 2 different Bacillus cereus strains related to 2 distinct central venous catheters.

2005

A 14-y-old girl with osteosarcoma developed 3 episodes of catheter-related bacteraemia by Bacillus cereus. After removal of the first and insertion of a second Hickman catheter, further episodes of B. cereus bacteraemia occurred. PFGE analysis revealed that bacteraemic episodes related to each catheter were caused by a distinct B. cereus strain.
