Viscosity of artificial bolus of high protein extruded snacks
2018
Pulse legumes (pea, lentil, faba bean) are excellent source of proteins (20-30% db), dietary fibers (10-30%), and starch (40-55%). The formulation of gluten-free extruded snacks made entirely from pulse legumes is an interesting way to introduce legumes to young people. Due to the reactivity of protein components under thermomechanical treatment, extrusion can produce cellular structures with various texture and starch-protein composite morphology. In turn, the morphology of parietal material governs masticatory performances. For the first time, the interaction coefficient between bolus and saliva was determined by taking into account multi-scale structure of high-protein solid foams. The p…
Synchronie entre l'offre et la demande dans le cycle des nutriments: apprendre des écosystèmes naturels pour construire des agrosystèmes durables
2023
Redesigning agrosystems with more ecological regulations can help feed a growing population, preserve soils for future productivity and reduce environmental impacts. However, guidelines for redesigning agrosystems from natural systems are limited. Reviewing the last knowledge of ecosystem functioning, we outlined four ecological systems synchronizing the supply of soluble nutrients by soil biota to fluctuating plant nutrient demand. This synchrony limits deficiencies and excesses of soluble nutrient, which usually penalize both production and regulating services of agrosystems such as nutrient retention and soil carbon storage. We detail how ecological systems promoting synchrony can be ins…

Evaluating the Public's Reaction to Simulated Alerts on Mobile Phones in France: Scale Effects, and Challenges
2022
International audience; In case of sudden and extreme life-threatening situation, the most efficient system fulfils the requirement of mobile phone emergency alerting information services. But how much information and what type of content must be used in a textual message, and how adapt this alert to a large audience and diversified contexts? This paper proposes to address this challenge, 1) by presenting results obtained in France during simulated "alerting days", with sampling revealing the perception and understanding of SMS and CB by a non-specialized audience (161 respondents), and 2) by comparing findings obtained in different contexts (students and teaching staff in a university, cri…
Noise characterization of analog to digital converters for amplitude and phase noise measurements
2017
International audience; Improvements on electronic technology in recent years have allowed the application of digital techniques in phase noise metrology where low noise and high accuracy are required, yielding flexibility in systems implementation and setup. This results in measurement systems with extended capabilities, additional functionalities and ease of use. In most digital schemes the Analog to Digital Converters (ADCs) set the ultimate performance of the system, therefore the proper selection of this component is a critical issue. Currently, the information available in literature describes in depth the ADC features only at frequency offsets far from the carrier. However, the perfo…

Biochemical methane potential (BMP) of solid organic substrates: evaluation of anaerobic biodegradability using data from an international interlabor…
2011
Background: This paper describes results obtained for different participating research groups in an interlaboratory study related to biochemical methane potential (BMP). In this research work, all experimental conditions influencing the test such as inoculum, substrate characteristics and experimental conditions were investigated. The study was performed using four substrates: three positive control substrates (starch, cellulose and gelatine), and one raw biomass material (mung bean) at two different inoculum to substrate ratios (ISR). Results: The average methane yields for starch, cellulose, gelatine and mung bean at ISR of 2 and 1 were 350 ± 33, 350 ± 29, 380 ± 42, 370 ± 36 and 370 ± 35 …
Nothing Left but the Core of Murmurs? : Attacks on Linking as Communication in Beckett’s The Unnamable
2022
Literary studies have usually interpreted Samuel Beckett’s The Unnamable (1959) to reflect an area void of meaning and inaccessible to representation. The present article, by contrast, argues that Beckett experientially communicates archaic psychic reality where certain contents develop in an interpersonal relationship. The article offers psychoanalytical close readings of a few key passages in the text, where the function that is integrated in the narrative voice and actively destroys connections manifests itself on different textual levels. Using the psychoanalyst Avner Bergstein’s interpretation of Wilfred Bion’s concept, “attacks on linking”, as a paradoxical form of communication, the …
Coupling two radar backscattering models to assess soil roughness and surface water content at farm scale
2013
Remote sensing techniques are useful for agro-hydrological monitoring at the farm scale because the availability of spatially and temporally distributed data improves agricultural models for irrigation and crop yield optimization under water scarcity conditions. This research focuses on the surface water content retrieval using active microwave data. Two semi-empirical models were chosen as these showed the best performances in simulating cross and co-polarized backscatter. Thus, these models were coupled to obtain reliable assessments of both soil water content and soil roughness. The use of the coupled model enables one to avoid using roughness measured in situ. Remote sensing images and …
