Classroom application of using visual stimuli in teaching and learning dynamics and pitch

Listening is a common activity in music lessons. It is difficult for teachers to know whether students are learning by listening. In this study, visual stimuli include imagery, metaphor, and symbols, were introduced to students in the experimental group to learn dynamics and pitch. A control group received the same lessons without any visual stimuli. Both groups received the same tests, pre-test and post-test, after the two lessons. Tests were divided into two parts including choosing the correct dynamic changes and distinguishing higher or lower pitch for the melody. AbstractThe present study extends research on classroom quality profiles by examining the differences between profiles with respect to children’s development in pre-academic skills and motivation across the kindergarten year. Teacher–child interactions were observed in 49 Finnish kindergarten classrooms using the CLASS Pre-K instrument. “Can do!” Teacher Promotion of Optimism in Response to Student Failure Expectation Expressions in Classroom Discourse

This study offers detailed observational analyses of how teachers use optimism as an instructional resource when responding to students’ failure expectation displays in classroom situations. The results were based on video-recordings of 25 lessons in two Finnish part-time special education settings, analysed by means of applied conversation analysis. Tämä laadullinen tapaustutkimus pyrkii selvittämään sekä opettaja- että oppilasaloitteisen huumorin roolia opetuksessa. Ilmiötä tarkastellaan eri huumorilajien kautta: ironia, kiusoittelu, leikinlasku, kielellä leikittely ja pilailu.
