Classroom interaction and literacy activities in kindergarten : Longitudinal links to grade 1 readers at risk and not at risk of reading difficulties

2017

The purpose of the present study is to establish how the quality of kindergarten classroom interactions and the frequency of literacy activities affect reading development among Grade 1 children—both those who are at risk and not at risk of developing reading difficulties. Interaction was assessed in terms of classroom organization, and the level of emotional and instructional support offered in 49 kindergarten classrooms in Finland using the CLASS (Classroom Assessment Scoring System). Kindergarten teachers also recorded the frequency of literacy activities in their classrooms. The phonological awareness and letter knowledge of 515 children (i.e., their pre-reading skills) were assessed at…

Associations between observed patterns of classroom interactions and teacher wellbeing in lower secondary school

2019

Classroom observations and teacher self-reports were used to examine the relationships between patterns of teacherestudent interactions and the wellbeing of Norwegian lower secondary school teachers. Latent profile analysis identified four subgroups. Teacherestudent interactions and the teachers' wellbeing were inter-related in that teachers who were observed to be high in all the interaction domains (Emotional Support, Classroom Organization, and Instructional Support) perceived themselves as having high job satisfaction. The results showed that improving teachers’ wellbeing has the potential to improve teacherestudent interactions and vice versa. The study also discusses the use of classr…

THE FLIPPED CLASSROOM: A MODEL EXPERIMENTED WITH UNDERGRADUATE STUDENTS IN UNIVERSITY OF PALERMO

2016

This paper describes the results of an exploratory study, which examines the results of a flipped classroom trial conducted for 154 students. This work was carried out in a course of Docimology at University of Palermo for future teachers, during the first semester of the academic year 2015. In this article we present the methodology, the tools and the main results of the exploratory study. As the flip learning model based on students learning by themselves, it is especially well adapted to the university environment. Flipped learning allows for a much more interactive classroom lesson, with the teacher helping students when they are stuck as opposed to the traditional set-up of students pa…

Oral errors, corrective feedback and learner uptake in an EFL setting

2012

Oppilaiden kielelliset virheet ovat luonnollinen osa luokkahuonediskurssia vieraiden kielten oppitunneilla. Opettaja antaa usein korjaavaa palautetta (corrective feedback) oppilaidensa virheisiin, ja parhaassa tapauksessa palaute auttaa oppilaita oppimaan virheistään. Tutkielma pyrkii kartoittamaan erilaisia opettajien käyttämiä keinoja, kun he antavat korjaavaa palautetta oppilaiden puheessa tekemiin virheisiin. Aineisto koostuu kahdeksasta englannin tunnista (yhtee…

Students' perceptions about the use of oral feedback in EFL classrooms

2016

Suullista …

Discourse between teacher and student : The effect of teacher s style of communication on learning environment as viewed in literature and the cinema

2009
