Phonological awareness (PA), the core contributor in phoneme processing abilities, has a link to later reading skills in children. However, the associations between PA and neural auditory discrimination are not clear. We used event-related potential (ERP) methodology and neuropsychological testing to monitor the neurocognitive basis of phonological awareness in typically developing children. Abstract The effects of water uptake on the fracture toughness of epoxy systems with high glass-transition temperatures (Tg above 170 °C) are investigated. Aging conditioning has been conducted in hot water, followed by a desorption conditioning in a room temperature dry-airborne. Water aging determines plasticisation effects and crosslink-density modifications, revealed by reductions of the Tg. It is less known how such modifications influence the material fracture toughness. On the strong closure of strains and stresses in linear elasticity

We consider the following special problem related to the optimal layout problems of materials: given two linear elastic materials, the elasticity tensors of which are C1 and C2, and a force f, find the strong closure of strains and stresses as the distribution of the materials varies, or, alternatively, find the sets of elasticity tensors which generate these strong closures. In this paper, it is shown that the local incompatibility conditions depending on C1, C2 and the local properties of strains or stresses completely characterize these sets. A connection to multiple-well problems is established.

The paper contains results of investigations of the crack growth in plane specimens made of Ti-6Al-4V titanium alloy and AlCu4Mg1 aluminium alloy under cyclic bending. The tests were done on specimens with the stress concentrators being one-sided sharp notch. On the fractures there have been observed first of all transcrystalline cracks through the α phase grains for both materials.
Fatigue crack growth in 2024-T351 Friction Stir Welded Joints: longitudinal residual stresses and microstructural effects

Abstract The role of longitudinal residual stress on propagation of fatigue cracks was examined in friction stir welds produced in 2024-T351 aluminum alloy. Fatigue crack growth rate was obtained through constant Δ K Iapp tests for notches at different distances from the weld centerline. Subsequently, crack growth was correlated to weld residual stress measured by the cut-compliance method. It was found that residual stresses correspond to low crack growth rates outside the weld zone during fatigue loading.
