5-methylcytosine modification of an Epstein–Barr virus noncoding RNA decreases its stability

Many cellular noncoding RNAs contain chemically modified nucleotides that are essential for their function. The Epstein–Barr virus expresses two highly abundant noncoding RNAs called EBV-encoded RNA 1 (EBER1) and EBER2. To examine whether these viral RNAs contain modified nucleotides, we purified native EBERs from EBV-infected cells and performed mass spectrometry analysis. While EBER2 contains no modified nucleotides at stoichiometric amounts, EBER1 was found to carry 5-methylcytosine (m5C) modification. Acanthocephalans from Marine Fishes from Patagonia, Argentina

In this study, 542 individual fish from 20 species from the Patagonian continental shelf of Argentina were examined for acanthocephalans. A total of 1,547 acanthocephalans belonging to 5 species were collected from 18 species of fish. Adult forms were represented by 2 species: Aspersentis johni (Baylis, 1929) (Heteracanthocephalidae) from longtail southern cod, Patagonotothen ramsayi (Regan) (new host record), and Breizacanthus aznari Herna´ndez-Orts, Alama-Bermejo, Crespo, Garcı´a, Raga and Montero, 2012 (Arhythmacanthidae) from raneya, Raneya brasiliensis (Kaup). Garcia-Alcalde (1972) proposed the new genus Xana (type species Xana bubo Garcia-Alcalde, 1972) for a terebratulid brachiopod included in the superfamily Stringocephalacea from the Lower Devonian of the Cantabrian Mountains (Northwestern Spain). In an email message sent on April 3, 2018, the entomologist Dr. Eduardo I. Faundez, from the Patagonia Institute, Magallanes University, Chile, warned the author that Xana was a name previously used by Kurdjumov (1917) for a hymenopteran genus. Abstract Since its coinage in the nineteenth century, the concept of Carolingian renaissance has been primarily based on the revival of classical texts promoted by Charlemagne and his successors. Among the positive consequences of Carolingian classicism is the careful—if discreet—preservation of the text of Lucretius’s De Rerum Natura, which survives in three valuable ninth-century manuscripts. Whereas rigorous philological studies of these manuscripts have been offered, little attention has been paid to their role in, and connection with, the reception of Lucretius in ninth-century literature. JaxoDraw: A graphical user interface for drawing Feynman diagrams

JaxoDraw is a Feynman graph plotting tool written in Java. It has a complete graphical user interface that allows all actions to be carried out via mouse click-and-drag operations in a WYSIWYG fashion. Graphs may be exported to postscript/EPS format and can be saved in XML files to be used in later sessions. One of the main features of JaxoDraw is the possibility to produce LaTeX code that may be used to generate graphics output, thus combining the powers of TeX/LaTeX with those of a modern day drawing program. With JaxoDraw it becomes possible to draw even complicated Feynman diagrams with just a few mouse clicks, without the knowledge of any programming language.

Uptake of endocytic markers by rice cells: variations related to the growth phase.

Endocytosis is now considered a basic cellular process common to plant cells. Although both non-specific and receptor-mediated endocytosis appear to take place in plant cells, the physiological role of the latter remains unclear. We have investigated the endocytic process in rice cell suspensions using two biotinylated proteins, peroxidase and bovine serum albumin (bHRP and bBSA), as markers. First, we show that markers are internalized by rice cells and appear in intracellular membranes. Dissection of keratin dynamics: different contributions of the actin and microtubule systems.

It has only recently been recognized that intermediate filaments (IFs) and their assembly intermediates are highly motile cytoskeletal components with cell-type- and isotype-specific characteristics.
