A Study on Patch-Based Progressive Coding Schemes of Semi-Regular 3D Meshes for Local Wavelet Compression and View-Dependent Transmission

2010

International audience; This paper firstly introduces a wavelet-based segmentation for three-dimensional (3D) Semi-Regular (SR) meshes, as a pre-processing step, in a region-independent progressive coding algorithm. The proposed segmentation process aims at producing homogeneous regions with respect to their frequency amplitudes on the mesh surface, in other words: patches with different degrees of roughness. We have then studied the behavior of the wavelets, obtained during the independent coding of each region, especially close to the patch boundaries. The main contribution of this paper consists in considering three different possible wavelet decompositions, close to the region borders, …

Gray code for Cayley permutations

2003

A length-n Cayley permutation p of a total ordered set S is a length-n sequence of elements from S, subject to the condition that if an element x appears in p then all elements y < x also appear in p . In this paper, we give a Gray code list for the set of length-n Cayley permutations. Two successive permutations in this list differ at most in two positions.

Near-field observation of subwavelength confinement of photoluminescence by a photonic crystal microcavity

2006

We present a direct, room-temperature near-field optical study of light confinement by a subwavelength defect microcavity in a photonic crystal slab containing quantum-well sources. The observations are compared with three-dimensional finite-difference time-domain calculations, and excellent agreement is found. Moreover, we use a subwavelength cavity to study the influence of a near-field probe on the imaging of localized optical modes. © 2006 Optical Society of America.

Generalisation and experimental validation of design rules for self-phase modulation-based 2R regenerators

2007

We report the design of 2R-regenerators based on self-phase modulation in lossy fibers. We experimentally demonstrate the applicability of the proposed scaling rules and present detailed characterization of the pulse characteristics at the regenerator output.

Analysis of the Bloch mode spectra of surface polaritonic crystals in the weak and strong coupling regimes: grating-enhanced transmission at oblique …

2004

The Bloch mode spectrum of surface plasmon polaritons (SPPs) on a finite thickness metal film has been analyzed in the regimes of weak and strong coupling between SPP modes on the opposite film interfaces. The SPP mode dispersion and associated field distributions have been studied. The results have been applied to the description of the light transmission through thick and thin periodically structured metal films at oblique incidence. In contrast to normal incidence, all SPP Bloch modes on a grating structure participate in the resonant photon tunnelling leading to the transmission enhancement. However, at the angle of incidence corresponding to the crossing of different symmetry film SPP …

Optical properties of chlorine-and oxygen-related defects in SiO$_2$ glass and optical fibers

2018

International audience; Photoinduced processes involving chlorine molecules in synthetic silica were studied. Interstitial Cl$_2$ in SiO$_2$ are prevented from VIS/UV photolysis by cage effect. However, they react with oxygen interstitials yielding photosensitive ClClO molecules absorbing at 264nm.

Etudes d'objets combinatoires : applications à la bio-informatique

2011

This thesis considers classes of combinatorial objects that model data in bioinformatics. We have studied two methods of mutation of genes within the genome : duplication and inversion. At first,we study the problem of the whole mirror duplication-random lossmodel in terms of pattern avoiding permutations. We prove that the class of permutations obtained with this method after p duplications from the identity is the class of permutations avoiding alternating permutations of length 2p + 1.We also enumerate the number of duplications that are necessary and sufficient to obtain any permutation of length n from the identity. We also suggest two efficient algorithms to reconstruct two different …

Modelling codling moth damage as a function of adult monitoring and crop protection: A survival generalized linear mixed model approach with time var…

2008

; The codling moth (Cydia pomonella) is responsible for most insecticide treatments in pear and apple orchards. In a context of reduction in pesticide use, we aim at better understanding factors that affect codling moth damage intensity. We modelled the link between the proportion of damaged fruits and both constant covariables (type of orchard: pear or apple, organic or not, with or without mating disruption) and time-varying covariables (weekly counts of adults and number of insecticide treatments). Observations were collected in 40 orchards in south-eastern France. We found that damage intensity increased with the number of adults trapped. An analysis of the random orchard effect indica…
