Differential Expression of theS-Adenosyl-l-Methionine Synthase Genes during Pea Development1

1998

Abstract Two genes coding for S-adenosyl-l-methionine synthase (SAMS, EC 2.5.1.6) were previously isolated from pea (Pisum sativum) ovaries. Both SAMS genes were highly homologous throughout their coding regions but showed a certain degree of sequence divergence within the 5′ and the 3′ untranslated regions. These regions have been used as gene-specific probes to analyze the differential expression of SAMS1and SAMS2 genes in pea plants. The ribonuclease protection assay revealed different expression patterns for each individual gene. SAMS1 was strongly expressed in nearly all tissues, especially in roots. SAMS2 expression was weaker, reaching its highest level at the apex. Following pollina…

Nucleic Acids and Nuclear Proteins

1994

DNA deserves the most attention in any book dealing with molecular variety in animals. The complete genetic information of the organism is encoded in the order of the bases, and with it also is the whole spectrum of genetically determined variation within and between individuals. One can view DNA as a text in which each of the four letters at each position has a unique meaning. Some information and variety is lost en route from the DNA via RNA to the proteins and the complex morphological and physiological characters because only part of the DNA is transcribed into RNA, and not all RNA codes for proteins; furthermore, the genetic code is degenerate and the 64 possible triplet codons define …

Assessing the effect of chromium pollution on benthic foraminiferal community: morphological vs. environmental metabarcoding approaches

The purpose of this experimental study is to assess the impact of different concentrations of chromium (Cr) through time on the diversity of cultured benthic foraminifera combining two morphological approaches for the identification of living specimens that are Rose Bengal (RB) staining and CellTracker Green (CTG) labelling as well as environmental DNA and RNA metabarcoding. Seven tanks/aquaria with different concentrations of Cr in water, namely 100 ppt, 1 ppb, 10 ppb, 100 ppb, 1 ppm and 10 ppm plus the control were used. A mesocosm was extracted from each tank at pre-established time (1 week, 2 weeks, 4 weeks 6 weeks and 8 weeks). Morphological analyses produced 6 datasets based on staini…

Natura e fondamento dell’azione revocatoria ordinaria e fallimentare

2022

The paper examines the juridical nature of the actio pauliana and of the bankrupty invalidation action and the reasons of these actions, which are based on a tort committed by the debtor and by the third party. In the case of free-of-charge deeds, however, these actions aim to avoid unjustified enrichment of the third party.

An Epigenetic Alphabet of Crop Adaptation to Climate Change

2022

Crop adaptation to climate change is in a part attributed to epigenetic mechanisms which are related to response to abiotic and biotic stresses. Although recent studies increased our knowledge on the nature of these mechanisms, epigenetics remains under-investigated and still poorly understood in many, especially non-model, plants, Epigenetic modifications are traditionally divided into two main groups, DNA methylation and histone modifications that lead to chromatin remodeling and the regulation of genome functioning. In this review, we outline the most recent and interesting findings on crop epigenetic responses to the environmental cues that are most relevant to climate change. In additi…

Improving quality in clinical placement studies in nursing homes (QUALinCLINstud):the study protocol of a participatory mixed methods multiple case s…

2020

IntroductionImproved quality in clinical supervision and assessment of student nurses in nursing home clinical placements is vitally important to effective recruitment and preparation for this healthcare sector. Knowledge regarding supervision and assessment practices within these settings is limited. Also, knowledge of evolving e-learning tools on the quality and effectiveness of these educational practices seems to be absent. Methods and analysisThe aim of the “Improving quality in clinical placement studies in nursing homes” (QUALinCLINstud) study is to develop and evaluate how a web-based programme can optimise supervision, assessment and learning during nursing home placements. The stud…
