The aim of the study is to explore situational, cultural and pragmatic factors that might trigger code-switching during informal conversations outside of the classroom at school among bilingual adolescents in Haparanda, Helsinki and Stockholm. An attempt is made to clarify different functions of code-switching, i.e. why bilingual adolescents code-switch from Swedish to Finnish and vice versa. The conversational data, consisting of video-recorded group and pair conversations, was collected in 2014–2015 at six junior high schools in Haparanda, Helsinki and Stockholm. This chapter discusses the current state of the art with regard to the timecourse of sentence processing in the brain. It outlines the challenges associated with studying timecourse information at the sentence level from a neurobiological perspective and describes competing theoretical and empirical perspectives in this domain. Several neuroimaging studies of cognitive aging revealed deficits in episodic memory abilities as a result of prefrontal cortex (PFC) limitations. Improving episodic memory performance despite PFC deficits is thus a critical issue in aging research. Listening to music stimulates cognitive performance in several non-purely musical activities (e.g., language and memory). Thus, music could represent a rich and helpful source during verbal encoding and therefore help subsequent retrieval. This article focuses on property relationships among siblings, especially on sales and exchanges of land, houses and other items, on the small Sicilian island of Stromboli in the Aeolian archipelago during the nineteenth century. Stromboli's economy incorporated farming and seafaring activities. The ‘modular structure’ of houses and wealth was characterised by partible inheritance, with equal inheritance shares or endowments for both sons and daughters, which was permitted under the Civil Code of the Kingdom of the Two Sicilies.
