A Linguistic journey to the border
2011
Language is a powerful tool. Linguistic creativity provides the means to new ways of knowing, thinking, and being, and allows a new set of dialogues to emerge. This paper illuminates how Guillermo Gómez-Peña, a Chicano performance artist, writer, activist and educator uses language to do just this. In this paper, I will specifically focus on Gómez-Peña’s use of monolingual English and Spanish, as well as his application of code-mixed dialogue and illustrate how his linguistic innovation reflects his position on Border Culture. peerReviewed
"Me ollaan mukana tässä experimentissä" : lingvististiska resurser och språkpraktiker i tvåspråkiga ungdomssamtal i Haparanda, Stockholm och Helsingf…
2017
The thesis explores bilingual adolescents’ language use, linguistic resources, and language practices in interaction at three junior high schools in Haparanda, a Swedish town on the country’s northeastern border with Finland. A comparison is also made with interaction among bilingual adolescents at two Sweden-Finnish junior high schools in Stockholm and at one Swedish-speaking junior high school in Helsinki. The aim of the study is to increase our knowledge of bilingual adolescents’ interaction practices and language repertoires, i.e. translanguaging, in interaction. The primary data consists of close to eleven hours of video- and audio-recorded informal group and pair conversations. The da…
Prediction of Specific TCR-Peptide Binding From Large Dictionaries of TCR-Peptide Pairs
2019
Abstract The T cell repertoire is composed of T cell receptors (TCR) selected by their cognate MHC-peptides and naive TCR that do not bind known peptides. While the task of distinguishing a peptide-binding TCR from a naive TCR unlikely to bind any peptide can be performed using sequence motifs, distinguishing between TCRs binding different peptides requires more advanced methods. Such a prediction is the key for using TCR repertoires as disease-specific biomarkers. We here used large scale TCR-peptide dictionaries with state-of-the-art natural language processing (NLP) methods to produce ERGO (pEptide tcR matchinG predictiOn), a highly specific classifier to predict which TCR binds to which…
OBTAINING POSITIONS OF ASTEROIDS FROM DIGITIZED PROCESSING OF PHOTOGRAPHIC OBSERVATIONS IN BALDONE OBSERVATORY (CODE 069)
2016
Digital processing of photographic plates of star fields allows to determine with high accuracy the coordinates and stellar magnitudes for all registered objects on these plates. The processing results can be used for a broad search for images of small bodies of the Solar system and determination of their coordinates. From the observations of earlier epoch, we can extract information about the locations of these bodies well before discovering them. Modern approach to processing early photographic observations with new technologies can be an effective instrument for rediscovery of asteroids and correction their orbits. We analyzed the results of digital processing of observations of clusters…

Low-code izstrādes platformas: lietotņu tiesību pārvaldība
2022
Low-code tehnoloģija strauji kļūst populāra, 2025.gadā 70% no komerciāli veidotajām lietotnēm būs low-code.[1] Augot tehnoloģijas popularitātei ir svarīgi arī pievērst uzmanību, ka low-code lietotnēs ir pilnvērtīga drošība. Bakalaura darbā tiek aplūkots viens no drošības aspektiem - tiesību pārvaldība. Tiesības nodrošina piekļuves kontroli izstrādātajās lietotnēs. Darba ietvaros tiek izstrādātas low-code lietotnes, lai pārliecinātos, ka pilnvērtīgi var ieviest tiesību pārvaldību un piekļuves kontroli izveidotajās lietotnēs. Rezultātā tiek parādīts, ka šobrīd low-code izstrādes platformās ir iespējams realizēt pilnvērtīgas lietotnes, bet paliek atvērts jautājums, vai mērķauditorija, kura vei…
Investigating Novice Developers’ Code Commenting Trends Using Machine Learning Techniques
2023
Code comments are considered an efficient way to document the functionality of a particular block of code. Code commenting is a common practice among developers to explain the purpose of the code in order to improve code comprehension and readability. Researchers investigated the effect of code comments on software development tasks and demonstrated the use of comments in several ways, including maintenance, reusability, bug detection, etc. Given the importance of code comments, it becomes vital for novice developers to brush up on their code commenting skills. In this study, we initially investigated what types of comments novice students document in their source code and further categoriz…
Classifying economics for the common good : a note on the links between sustainable development goals and JEL codes
2021
Purpose This brief note sheds light on the links between Journal of Economic Literature (JEL) codes and the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) of the United Nations. Design/methodology/approach Three alternative methods based on keyword overlap to establish links between SDGs and JEL codes are presented. Findings These simple linkages illustrate that the themes of SDGs have corresponding closely related JEL classification codes. Research limitations/implications The mappings presented in this note are based on simple keyword overlap and are therefore necessarily imperfect and incomplete. There is plenty of room for further development. Practical implications Despite the demonstrated possi…
