Related haloarchaeal pleomorphic viruses contain different genome types
2012
Archaeal viruses have been the subject of recent interest due to the diversity discovered in their virion architectures. Recently, a new group of haloarchaeal pleomorphic viruses has been discovered. It is distinctive in terms of the virion morphology and different genome types (ssDNA/dsDNA) harboured by rather closely related representatives. To date there are seven isolated viruses belonging to this group. Most of these share a cluster of five conserved genes, two of which encode major structural proteins. Putative proviruses and proviral remnants containing homologues of the conserved gene cluster were also identified suggesting a long-standing relationship of these viruses with their ho…
Diagnostyka sądowo-kryminalna w orzekaniu i wykonywaniu warunkowego przedterminowego zwolnienia w teorii i praktyce sądowej – raport z badania
2019
Niniejsza praca stanowi podsumowanie projektu badawczego Diagnostyka sądowo-kryminalna w orzekaniu i wykonywaniu warunkowego przedterminowego zwolnienia w teorii i praktyce sądowej, zrealizowanego przez Instytut Wymiaru Sprawiedliwości.
RTS2 - the Remote Telescope System
2010
RTS2 is an open source observatory manager. It was written from scratch in the C++ language, with portability and modularity in mind. Its driving requirements originated from quick follow-ups of Gamma Ray Bursts. After some years of development it is now used to carry tasks it was originally not intended to carry. This article presents the current development status of the RTS2 code. It focuses on describing strategies which worked as well as things which failed to deliver expected results. Intraocular Telescopic System Design: Optical and Visual Simulation in a Human Eye Model
2016
Purpose. To design an intraocular telescopic system (ITS) for magnifying retinal image and to simulate its optical and visual performance after implantation in a human eye model. Methods. Design and simulation were carried out with a ray-tracing and optical design software. Two different ITS were designed, and their visual performance was simulated using the Liou-Brennan eye model. The difference between the ITS was their lenses’ placement in the eye model and their powers. Ray tracing in both centered and decentered situations was carried out for both ITS while visual Strehl ratio (VSOTF) was computed using custom-made MATLAB code. Results. The results show that between 0.4 and 0.8 mm of d…
Speech Emotion Recognition method using time-stretching in the Preprocessing Phase and Artificial Neural Network Classifiers
2020
Human emotions are playing a significant role in the understanding of human behaviour. There are multiple ways of recognizing human emotions, and one of them is through human speech. This paper aims to present an approach for designing a Speech Emotion Recognition (SER) system for an industrial training station. While assembling a product, the end user emotions can be monitored and used as a parameter for adapting the training station. The proposed method is using a phase vocoder for time-stretching and an Artificial Neural Network (ANN) for classification of five typical different emotions. As input for the ANN classifier, features like Mel Frequency Cepstral Coefficients (MFCCs), short-te…
Face tracking and recognition: from algorithm to implementation
2002
This paper describes a system capable of realizing a face detection and tracking in video sequences. In developing this system, we have used a RBF neural network to locate and categorize faces of different dimensions. The face tracker can be applied to a video communication system which allows the users to move freely in front of the camera while communicating. The system works at several stages. At first, we extract useful parameters by a low-pass filtering to compress data and we compose our codebook vectors. Then, the RBF neural network realizes a face detection and tracking on a specific board.
Combining Auto-Encoder with LSTM for WiFi-Based Fingerprint Positioning
2021
Although indoor positioning has long been investigated by various means, its accuracy remains concern. Several recent studies have applied machine learning algorithms to explore wireless fidelity (WiFi)-based positioning. In this paper, we propose a novel deep learning model which concatenates an auto-encoder with a long short term memory (LSTM) network for the purpose of WiFi fingerprint positioning. We first employ an auto-encoder to extract representative latent codes of fingerprints. Such an extraction is proven to be more reliable than simply using a deep neural network to extract representative features since a latent code can be reverted back to its original input. Then, a sequence o…
Testing selected optimal descriptors with artificial neural networks
2013
Eleven properties have been modeled with the objective of checking the importance for model purposes of mixed descriptors made of empirical parameters, molecular connectivity indices and random numbers. The mixed descriptors with random indices have a descriptive character which is satisfactorily confirmed by the leave-one-out method of statistical analysis. The introduction of a partition of the set of compounds into training and evaluation sets decreases drastically the probability to find a mixed descriptor with random indices with good model quality. Two properties, the magnetic susceptibility and the elutropic values, insist on having optimal descriptors with random indices. The overal…
An Encrypted Traffic Classification Framework Based on Convolutional Neural Networks and Stacked Autoencoders
2020
In recent years, deep learning-based encrypted traffic classification has proven to be effective; especially, using neural networks to extract features from raw traffic to classify encrypted traffic. However, most of the neural networks need a fixed-sized input, so that the raw traffic need to be trimmed. This will cause the loss of some information; for example, we do not know the number of packets in a session. To solve these problems, a framework, which implements both a convolutional neural network (CNN) and a stacked autoencoder (SAE), is proposed in this paper. This framework uses a CNN to extract high-level features from raw network traffic and uses an SAE to encode the 26 statistica…
Predicting the time variation of radio emission from MHD simulations of a flaring T-Tauri star
2020
ABSTRACT We model the time-dependent radio emission from a disc accretion event in a T-Tauri star using 3D, ideal magnetohydrodynamic simulations combined with a gyrosynchrotron emission and radiative transfer model. We predict for the first time, the multifrequency (1–1000 GHz) intensity and circular polarization from a flaring T-Tauri star. A flux tube, connecting the star with its circumstellar disc, is populated with a distribution of non-thermal electrons that is allowed to decay exponentially after a heating event in the disc and the system is allowed to evolve. The energy distribution of the electrons, as well as the non-thermal power-law index and loss rate, are varied to see their …
