Through space singlet energy transfers in the light harvesting systems and cofacial bisporphyrin dyads
2010
Recent discoveries from our research groups on the photophysics of a few cofacial bisporphyrin dyads for through space singlet and triplet energy transfers raised several important investigations about the mechanism of energy transfers and energy migration in light-harvesting devices, notably LH II, in the heavily investigated purple photosynthetic bacteria. The key feature is that for face-to-face and slipped dyads with controlled structure using rigid spacers or spacers with limited flexibilities, our fastest rates for singlet energy transfer are in the 10 × 109 s -1 (i.e. 100 ps time scale) for donor-acceptor distances of ~3.5–3.6 Å. The time scale for energy transfers between different…
Sex differences in estimation of time intervals and in reaction time are removed by moderate but not high doses of caffeine in coffee
2002
Estimation of the passage of time in the seconds-to-minutes range and reaction time are strongly dependent on a hypothetical internal clock. Dopamine is the neurotransmitter most closely related to the rate of this clock. Caffeine, probably the most consumed drug in the world, leads to an augmentation of dopamine neurotransmission. In this study coffee, which reproduces the conditions under which caffeine is normally ingested, containing 3, 75, 150 or 300 mg of caffeine, was given to healthy male and female volunteers. A computerized time estimation and reaction time test was carried out 50 min after ingestion. Sex differences in placebo control subjects (who took decaffeinated coffee with …
The Arabidopsis COPT6 Transport Protein Functions in Copper Distribution Under Copper-Deficient Conditions
2013
Copper (Cu), an essential redox active cofactor, participates in fundamental biological processes, but it becomes highly cytotoxic when present in excess. Therefore, living organisms have established suitable mechanisms to balance cellular and systemic Cu levels. An important strategy to maintain Cu homeostasis consists of regulating uptake and mobilization via the conserved family of CTR/COPT Cu transport proteins. In the model plant Arabidopsis thaliana, COPT1 protein mediates root Cu acquisition, whereas COPT5 protein functions in Cu mobilization from intracellular storage organelles. The function of these transporters becomes critical when environmental Cu bioavailability diminishes. Ho…
Detection of a plant enzyme exhibiting chlorogenate-dependant caffeoyltransferase activity in methanolic extracts of arbuscular mycorrhizal tomato ro…
2012
When Glomus intraradices-colonised tomato roots were extracted in methanol at 6 degrees C, chlorogenic acid (5-caffeoylquinic acid), naturally present in the extract, was slowly converted by transesterification into methyl caffeate. The progress of the reaction could be monitored by HPLC. The reaction only occurred when the ground roots were left in contact with the hydro-alcoholic extract and required the presence of 15-35% water in the mixture. When the roots were extracted in ethanol, chlorogenic acid was transformed to ethyl caffeate in the same conditions. The reaction was also detected in Glomus mosseae-colonised tomato root extracts. It was also detectable in non-mycorrhizal root ext…
Un contrato inédito de Juan de Juanes. El retablo de la Cofradía de la Sangre de Cristo de Valencia (1539)
2012
This article is based on an unpublished contract signed in 1539 by Vicente and Juan Macip for an altarpiece for the Valencian Brotherhood of the Blood of Christ. The agreement stipulates that Juan, later known as Juan de Juanes, had to paint the scenes. Thus the document reinforces the hypothesis that Juan Macip was the most important painter in the Macip workshop during the 1530’s. It also fills a documental void in between the completion of the Silversmith’s Guild altarpiece (1534-1539) and the contract for the Fuente la Higuera altarpiece (1548). This study also verifies the popularity of the iconography of the seven sheddings of the Blood of Christ and processions of disciplinants.<b…
L’urbanité de l’héritage industriel La reconversion du viaduc de la High Line à New York
2015
At the heart of urban dynamics over the past few decades, the reconversion of riverside and port spaces in cities of the western world is associated with the deindustrialisation of these sites, often situated near historic city centres. This contemporary situation puts industrial heritage conversion at the centre of thinking which goes beyond the mere conservation of the original value of the buildings to question the future of cities, in relation to the notion of sustainability. In New York, after thirty years of neglect, the old railway viaduct known as the “High Line” has been transformed into an elevated, linear urban parkway. The project must be reframed within the Hudson Riverpark ope…
Drogodependencias: de la epidemiología a la intervención. Estrategias y oportunidades
2005
Optimal manufacturing and mechanical characterization of high performance biocomposites reinforced by sisal fibers
2018
Abstract The increasing interest about eco-sustainable materials in the industrial production (automotive, civil construction, packaging), has led to the increase of the research works dealing with biocomposites. However, until now the most attention has been devoted to the development of short fiber biocomposites for non-structural applications, whereas only a few works have considered high performance biocomposites for structural applications. Consequently, the development of structural biocomposites from robust natural fibers, as sisal fibers, is a result expected from the scientific community, but not yet achieved. In order to give a contribution to the implementation of high performanc…
