This study investigated the impact of Nordic walking on bone properties in postmenopausal women with pre-diabetes and non-alcohol fatty liver disease (NAFLD). A total of 63 eligible women randomly participated in the Nordic walking training (AEx, n = 33), or maintained their daily lifestyle (Con, n = 30) during intervention. Bone mineral content (BMC) and density (BMD) of whole body (WB), total femur (TF), femoral neck (FN), and lumbar spine (L2-4) were assessed by dual-energy X-ray absorptiometry. Abstract The oxidation of alcohols to carbonyl compounds in a clean fashion (i.e., with water as a solvent or under solvent‐free conditions, and using O2 or H2O2 as the primary oxidant) is the subject of considerable research efforts. A new approach for the selective oxidation of soluble aromatic alcohols in water under mild conditions via a novel composite photocatalyst has been developed. Tematem mojego artykułu jest problem używek przedstawiony w Matce Stanisława Ignacego Witkiewicza. Nadużywanie alkoholu i narkotyków, służące złagodzeniu bólu istnienia to - w kontekście omawianego utworu - zagłuszanie metafizycznych lęków nie tylko prezentowanych w nim postaci, ale także samego autora. Na przykładzie inscenizacji Jerzego Jarockiego z Teatru Starego w Krakowie opisuję złożoność relacji postaci, które dławiąc się własnym cierpieniem, popadają w nałogi. Zarówno dramat, jak i jego teatralna konkretyzacja stanowią laboratorium udręki wzajemnego bytowania, studium destrukcyjnej siły rodzinnych związków. Tutaj wszystko może się zdarzyć i na pewno będzie na „nie".

The aim of my current research in the frame of my PhD studies is to study the time structure of William Faulkner’s The Soun d and the Fury, with special attention to Benjy’s chapter, in order to establish whether there is a cohesive link between any two consecutive, apparently disconnected episodes narrated in Benjy’s part. The theoretical framework builds upon the theories on narrative syntax , from Aristotle to Propp, Lévi - Strauss, Greimas, Todorov and Genette, on the one hand, and the research on the concept of time across disciplines such as physics, psychology and philosophy, on the other. Coherence in neutrino oscillations

The theory of neutrino oscillations has turned out to be the most reasonable explanation to the observed violations in lepton number conservation of solar and atmospheric neutrino fluxes. A derivation of the most important results of this theory is first given using a plane wave treatment and subsequently using a three-dimensional shape-independent wave packet approach. Both methods give the same oscillation patterns, but only the latter one serves as a decent starting point for analyzing coherence in neutrino oscillations. Increasing the Astrophysical Reach of the Advanced Virgo Detector via the Application of Squeezed Vacuum States of Light

Current interferometric gravitational-wave detectors are limited by quantum noise over a wide range of their measurement bandwidth. One method to overcome the quantum limit is the injection of squeezed vacuum states of light into the interferometer's dark port. Here, we report on the successful application of this quantum technology to improve the shot noise limited sensitivity of the Advanced Virgo gravitational-wave detector. A sensitivity enhancement of up to 3.2±0.1 dB beyond the shot noise limit is achieved. This nonclassical improvement corresponds to a 5%-8% increase of the binary neutron star horizon. Współczesny dyskurs wokół koncepcji „Europy wielu prędkości” jest próbą nadania kwestii centro-peryferyjnej w Europie konkretnych ram politycznych i instytucjonalnych. Noise effect in a sine-Gordon Lattice

International audience; This paper is devoted to the influence of internal noise in a sine-Gordon chain exhibiting the well known nonlinear supratransmission phenomenon. It is shown that spatiotemporal noise can trigger breather modes with a given probability in a range of parameters where they do not occur without noise. A frequency analysis is carried out to quantify the degree of coherence of the emitted breather. It is shown that there exists an appropriate amount of noise which ensures the existence of breather modes with the best coherence.
