Bacteria from acidic to strongly alkaline insect midguts: Potential sources of extreme cellulolytic enzymes

Abstract Bacterial isolates from the European Corn Borer (ECB) Ostrinia nubilalis and the coleopteran Colorado Potato Beetle (CPB) Leptinotarsa decemlineata midguts were identified and characterized. Twenty-four colonies, selected on solid media with cellulose as the sole carbon source and pH values ranging from 5 to 12, were identified through 16S sequencing as members of the genera Acinetobacter , Comamonas , Klebsiella , Microbacterium , Micrococcus and Sphingobacterium . On orderability of fibred knot groups

It is known that knot groups are right-orderable, and that many of them are not bi-orderable. Here we show that certain bred knots in S 3 (or in a homology sphere) do have bi-orderable fundamental group. In particular, this holds for bred knots, such as 41, for which the Alexander polynomial has all roots real and positive. This is an application of the construction of orderings of groups, which are moreover invariant with respect to a certain automorphism.

We show, with computations aided by a computer, that the (3,2)-curve on some standard torus (which topologically is the trefoil knot) has no tritangent planes, thus answering in the negative a conjecture of M. H. Freedman.
Color- and motion-specific units in the tectum opticum of goldfish

Extracellular recordings were performed from 69 units at different depths between 50 and [Formula: see text]m below the surface of tectum opticum in goldfish. Using large field stimuli (86[Formula: see text] visual angle) of 21 colored HKS-papers we were able to record from 54 color-sensitive units. The colored papers were presented for 5[Formula: see text]s each. They were arranged in the sequence of the color circle in humans separated by gray of medium brightness. This study disentangles national and transnational influences on international journalism by distinguishing convergent issue framing from nationally specific narrative in news texts. In a comparative quantitative content analysis of the newspaper coverage in five democratic countries (Brazil, Germany, India, South Africa, and United States) during four United Nations climate change conferences from 2010 to 2013, both textual-visual framing and narrative features were studied simultaneously for the first time. In goats, classical genetic studies reported a large number of alleles at the Agouti locus with effects on coat color and pattern distribution. From these early studies, the dominant A(Wt) (white/tan) allele was suggested to cause the white color of the Saanen breed. A unique dispositive to determine casein which is the most abundant protein in dairy sewages has been proposed. In this sensing technology, the derivatization reagent 1,2-naphtoquininone 4-sulphonate (NQS) is embedded into a polydimethylsiloxane-tetraethylortosilicate-SiO2 nanoparticles composite (PDMS-TEOS-SiO2NPs). When the composite is immersed into the samples, casein is extracted from the solution and derivatized inside the PDMS matrix after 10 min at 100°C. The sensing support changes its color from yellow to orange depending on the casein concentration. A Variational Approach for Denoising Hyperspectral Images Corrupted by Poisson Distributed Noise

Poisson distributed noise, such as photon noise is an important noise source in multi- and hyperspectral images. We propose a variational based denoising approach, that accounts the vectorial structure of a spectral image cube, as well as the poisson distributed noise. For this aim, we extend an approach for monochromatic images, by a regularisation term, that is spectrally and spatially adaptive and preserves edges. In order to take the high computational complexity into account, we derive a Split Bregman optimisation for the proposed model. The results show the advantages of the proposed approach compared to a marginal approach on synthetic and real data.
Gray visiting Motzkins

We present the first Gray code for Motzkin words and their generalizations: k colored Motzkin words and Schroder words. The construction of these Gray codes is based on the observation that a k colored Motzkin word is the shuffle of a Dyck word by a k-ary variation on a trajectory which is a combination. In the final part of the paper we give some algorithmic considerations and other possible applications of the techniques introduced here.
