Dai beni comuni al comune. Diritto, Stato e storia
2016
This article – which examines the volume by Pierre Dardot and Christian Laval, Commun – intends to work out the meanings, including their historical background, which pertain to a crucial discursive field in today’s political debate: those of the terms common /commons. The goal, following Dardot and Laval multifold proposal, is to understand how to overcome the evident indeterminacy of a word such as commun. The critical analysis of the extremely complex, and frequently fuzzy, genealogies of common /commons is a fundamental step in this intellectual program, indeed a precondition for the elaboration of a convincing conceptual tool. This concept is interpreted, following the perspective outl…
THE ILVA DISASTER: A STUDY OF ENVIRONMENTAL LIABILITY IN ITALY
2021
Purpose The purpose of this paper is to propose a reflection on the importance of individual environmental protection, which recognizes the right of every citizen to take action to obtain compensation for environmental damage, as a damage to his or her existential condition. One of the most discussed environmental issues in Italy today is the lack of personal protection because the European legislator has provided for a public protection of environmental damage. Design/methodology/approach Design/methodology/approach based on the analysis of a well-known environmental disaster, the case of ex Ilva, the author shows how in Italy there is a dangerous lack of protection in environmental matte…
Dall'impresa gerarchica alla comunità distribuita
2014
This article describes the emergence of collaborative production systems, that is those decentralized systems, different from markets and firms, where a community a loosely connected people, with a range of diverse and primarily intrinsic motivation, engage in a large scale collaboration whose outputs are governed as commons (e.g. open software, open hardware, etc.). After a description of the relationship between market system and managerial hierarchy, and the costs connected to each of these systems, the article exposes how peer production is usually organized and identifies the relative advantages of this organizational model over markets and firms under given circumstances. In the last …
Reimparare il comune: A teatro dopo il 1989
2020
The Effect of Different High-Intensity Periodization Models on Endurance Adaptations
2016
Purpose: This study aimed to compare the effects of three different high-intensity training (HIT) models, balanced for total load but differing in training plan progression, on endurance adaptations. Methods: Sixty-three cyclists (peak oxygen uptake (V˙O2peak) 61.3 ± 5.8 mL·kg−1·min−1) were randomized to three training groups and instructed to follow a 12-wk training program consisting of 24 interval sessions, a high volume of low-intensity training, and laboratory testing. The increasing HIT group (n = 23) performed interval training as 4 × 16 min in weeks 1–4, 4 × 8 min in weeks 5–8, and 4 × 4 min in weeks 9–12. The decreasing HIT group (n = 20) performed interval sessions in the opposite…

Essentials of Common Industrial Policy
2021
A set of sixteen principles of modern industrial policy is derived from the literature for application to entire regions. Such policy strives to create industrial commons and to rectify market failures which cannot reasonably be expected to self-correct over time. This chapter creates a workable typology of genuine regional industries, distinguishing two main types: Type I is the outcome of targeted selection and Type II of broad investment promotion. A ‘dual core’ of both types is appropriate to most African industrial ecosystems. The chapter goes on to clarify the distinction between regional production networks and stand-alone ‘lighthouses’. The incentive system for regional industries i…
The Politics of Debate in the Union Societies
2016
The chapter discusses the disputes over procedure in the private meetings of the Union Societies and how they can be interpreted politically. Haapala points out that some of the rules were adopted from the House of Commons, although the Unions did not follow the parliamentary model in all respects. As well as noting that the politics of debate in the Unions was largely conducted through rule interpretation and challenging the decisions of the president, the chapter also draws attention to the role of the standing committees, the vast powers of Union presidents and the rhetorical strategies the members used in the debates. The chapter ends with a typology of politicisation of the rules in th…
No more Masterplan: the Cityforming Protocol
2018
In Europe, the season of urban regeneration has produced important effects both in the review of the urban devices and in the rethinking of the settlement forms and their spatial and human relations. But it cannot be denied that certain diseases emerged which often have anaesthetised – if not cancelled – the regenerative effects envisaged. The urban transition, while it has increased the use of regeneration processes from the bottom, has at the same time extended the epidemic of failures derived from a top-down approach. The critical issues of hierarchical urban regeneration cannot be solved by revising the procedures for participation, improving design devices, or innovating implementation…
