Consapevolmente intelligenti: un’indagine esplorativa sull’uso dei social network nella scuola primaria
2017
Abstract – Social Networks are a noteworthy opportunity to build a more caring and responsible society, a practice that is assimilated by learning to use the Web in a conscious way. The media competence takes the form of expertise both to active participation to the Web and to society. The focus is on the need to acquire the know-how to exploit the media, with particular reference to social networks, in a clever way so as to make them intelligent instruments. From an educational point of view, Social Networks offer a different potential because they are able to support the functions of socialization, of sharing and of coordination; to encourage dialogue, promote resources sharing and improv…
SELF-CONSCIOUSLY CLEVER: AN EXPLORATORY SURVEY ON THE USE OF SOCIAL NETWORKS AT THE UNIVERSITY
2017
Social networks are a noteworthy opportunity to build a more caring and responsible society, a practice that is assimilated by learning to use the Web in a conscious way. The media competence takes the form of expertise both to active participation to the Web and to society. The focus is on the need to acquire the know-how to exploit the media, with particular reference to social networks, in a clever way so as to meke them intelligent instruments (Rheingold, 2013). From an educational point of view, social networks offer a different potential because they are able to support the functions of socialization, of sharing and of coordination (Anderson, 2009); to encourage dialogue, promote reso…
PERSOC: A Unified Framework for Understanding the Dynamic Interplay of Personality and Social Relationships
2011
The interplay of personality and social relationships is as fascinating as it is complex and it pertains to a wide array of largely separate research domains. Here, we present an integrative and unified framework for analysing the complex dynamics of personality and social relationships (PERSOC). Basic principles and general processes on the individual and dyadic level are outlined to show how personality and social relationships influence each other and develop over time. PERSOC stresses the importance of social behaviours and interpersonal perceptions as mediating processes organized in social interaction units. The framework can be applied to diverse social relationships such as first en…
Using the Storytelling Method to Hear Children’s Perspectives and Promote Their Social-Emotional Competence
2019
This study investigated the use of a playful, narrative, vignette-based method, called Story Magician’s Play Time (SMPT), in supporting children’s social-emotional reasoning and in helping children practice their social skills. We set out to examine (a) in what ways children use SMPT sessions to explore social interaction situations and to practice social skills, and (b) what story content and narrative play behavior during the SMPT sessions reveal about the social-emotional competence of children, in terms of acquisition and performance skills. The data were collected during SMPT storytelling sessions where 5- to 6-year-old children narrated stories of familiar but challenging daily situa…
"5-6 gadus vecu bērnu sociāli emocionālās kompetences nozīme socializācijas procesā pirmsskolas izglītības iestādē"
2016
Potential for adaptation to climate change: family-level variation in fitness-related traits and their responses to heat waves in a snail population.
2017
Background On-going global climate change poses a serious threat for natural populations unless they are able to evolutionarily adapt to changing environmental conditions (e.g. increasing average temperatures, occurrence of extreme weather events). A prerequisite for evolutionary change is within-population heritable genetic variation in traits subject to selection. In relation to climate change, mainly phenological traits as well as heat and desiccation resistance have been examined for such variation. Therefore, it is important to investigate adaptive potential under climate change conditions across a broader range of traits. This is especially true for life-history traits and defences ag…

Linguistic, sociolinguistic, and pragmatic competence as criteria in assessing vocational language skills: the case of Finland
2010
The content of the assessment criteria used in assessing vocationally oriented language competence in the Finnish Competency-Based Qualifications was examined. The data consisted of the National Core Curricula, eight education providers’ assessment criteria used in rating performances in the Qualification of Business and Administration, and thematic interviews conducted with 12 language teachers and four workplace experts. The data were analysed qualitatively. The results showed that on the lower levels of language competence, sociolinguistic and pragmatic competences were considered important in compensating for lacking linguistic competence. The findings will be useful in further defining…
Service-learning in physical education teacher education: towards a critical and inclusive perspective
2020
The purpose of this study was to analyse the impact of service-learning (SL) in physical education teacher education students (PETEs). The PETEs (n = 169) completed one of the editions of a SL program carried out between 2015–2018. This program consisted of designing and leading motor game sessions to facilitate the inclusion of 116 children with special educational needs (SEN). The program was based on Kolb’s learning stages to promote reflection and critical thinking. Reflective journals were used as an instrument to gather information from their experiences. These data were analysed qualitatively through a multiphase approach, initial open-coding and axial coding, using NVivo (10) softwa…
