The association between the Mediterranean diet and magnetic resonance parameters for knee osteoarthritis: data from the Osteoarthritis Initiative

2018

The Mediterranean diet appears to be beneficial for osteoarthritis (OA), but the few data available regarding the association between the diet and the condition are limited to X-ray and clinical findings. The current study aimed to investigate the association between adherence to the Mediterranean diet and knee cartilage morphology, assessed using magnetic resonance (MRI) in a cohort of North American participants. Seven hundred eighty-three participants in the Osteoarthritis Initiative (59.8% females; mean age 62.3 years) in possession of a MRI assessment (a coronal 3D FLASH with Water Excitation MR sequence of the right knee) were enrolled in our cross-sectional study. Adherence to the Me…

A Central Nervous System Focused Treatment Program for People with Frozen Shoulder: A Feasibility Study

2022

Background: Frozen shoulder (FS) is a highly disabling pathology of poorly understood etiology, which is characterized by the presence of intense pain and progressive loss of range of motion (ROM). The aim of this study is to evaluate the feasibility and clinical impact of a CNS-focused treatment program for people with FS. Methods: 10 subjects with primary FS received a 10-week CNS-focused intervention including sensory discrimination training and graded motor imagery techniques delivered as clinic sessions (60 min) and home therapy (30 min five times per week). Measurements were taken at baseline, after a 2-week “washout” period, after treatment, and at three months follow-up.…

Motivos de participación en el Programa de Prevención del Cáncer Colorrectal de la Comunidad Valenciana según sexo, edad y clase social

2014

Objective: To know the reasons to participate or not in a colorectal cancer (CCR) screening programme and to analyze the differences by sex, age and social class. Methods: Cross-sectional study by a telephone survey directed to a sample of men and women aged between 50-74 year old, participants (n = 383) and non participants (n = 383) in the CCR screening programme of Valencian Community. Descriptive analysis and logistic regression models estimating the Odds Ratio (p < 0.05). Results: The main reasons to participate are "it is important for health" (97.9 %) and "the test is easy" (97.6 %); and to non participate are "no CCR symptoms" (49.7 %) and "didn't receive invitation letter" (48.3 %)…

The limits of the law and the future of compliance

2017

Confirmatory factor analysis of the Valencia Scale on Attitudes and Beliefs Toward Hypnosis: an international study.

2004

Health professionals" beliefs and attitudes toward hypnosis may make them reluctant to use it or even to foster misapplications and iatrogenic uses of hypnosis. The Valencia Scale on Attitudes and Beliefs toward Hypnosis-Therapist version (VSABH-T) is a specific instrument to evaluate therapists" attitudes and beliefs. The aims of this study are to evaluate the 8-factor structure of the VSABH-T proposed from a confirmatory perspective. The sample comprised 1,661 licensed psychologists who are members of the Spanish Psychological Association for the initial test and 787 for the retest. Results confirmed the 8-factor structure obtained in a previous exploratory study, namely: Fear, Memory, He…

Study on compliance with breakthrough cancer pain guidelines by medical oncologists in Spain.

2017

e18260 Background: Breakthrough cancer pain (BTcP) has been shown to be a prevalent and poor prognostic factor for cancer patients, which remains undertreated and underdiagnosed. The Spanish Society for Medical Oncology (SEOM) developed a clinical practice guideline (CPG) for the treatment of cancer pain which specifically addressed the management of BTcP. Methods: With the objective of evaluate compliance with SEOM’ guideline, Fundación ECO designed a survey to identify awareness, perceptions, implementation and gaps, among Spanish medical oncologists. Results: A total of 83 oncologists with a median experience of 13 years responded. Although 87% of oncologists considered their clinical p…

On the improved Estimation of the Compliance-Parameters of the Physiologically Closed Cardiovascular System

1987

The influence of the type of the sampling-schedule and of the system-excitation with respect to identifiability and estimation-accuracy of the compliance-parameters of a nonlinear model of the physiologically closed cardiovascular system will be investigated. Using the sensitivity-functions of the arterial systemic pressure with respect to the compliance-parameters it will be shown how to select the sample-schedule and system-excitation in order to get optimal estimation-accuracy.

Strict compliance with ESC therapeutic guidelines after myocardial infarction treated with invasive strategy correlates with improved 18-month outcom…

2020

Abstract Background Despite improved early outcomes in patients (pts) with acute myocardial infarction (MI) in Poland with prevalent strategy of primary angioplasty by radial access, mid- and long-term outcomes are unsatisfactory. Objective We hypothesized that strict implementation of secondary prevention ESC guidelines in post-infarction management may be related with improved mid-term clinical outcomes Methods We compared 18-month outcomes of pts treated for MI with primary invasive strategy in a tertiary university hospital (NSTEMI 470/47%, or STEMI 535/53%; N=1005; Gr-L) with similar subset from national databases AMI-PL and PL-ACS (N=117307; NSTEMI 50966/43%, STEMI 64078/57%; Gr-Pol).…

Automatic bilevel ventilation (AutoBI) in obstructive sleep-disordered breathing (SDB): clinical features and compliance to treatment

2017

CPAP is the first-choice treatment for obstructive SDB, but the criteria to prescribe AutoBI are undefined. Trials of AutoBI ventilation in patients under titration for obstructive SDB from January 2015 to January 2017 ((n=67 out of 265 titrations) were reviewed to assess: a) their clinical features, b) the reason to shift from CPAP to AutoBI, and c) long-term compliance to treatment. AutoBI was used in cases of intolerance to high therapeutic CPAP levels (n=23) or incomplete resolution of SDB on CPAP (n=45). AutoBI failed in 11 patients (16.4%): 2 OSA patients (7.7%), 4 overlap patients (21%), and 5 OHS patients (22.7%). The Table reports the differences at diagnosis between patients presc…
