Abstract Objective: To compare compliance, symptom control, bleeding patterns, endometrial response, and lipid changes in postmenopausal women treated with transdermal E 2 and a regimen of either intermittent or continuous dosing of progestin. Design: Randomized, prospective study. Setting: Menopausal Outpatient Clinic at an academic tertiary care hospital. Patient(s): One hundred women who had reached menopause naturally and had been amenorrheic for at least 1 year. Fifty women were randomly assigned to receive each regimen. Intervention(s): All patients received 50-μg E 2 patches and medroxyprogesterone acetate, either 5 mg twice per week or 2.5 mg daily. The bleeding pattern was register…
Mobile diary for wellness management--results on usage and usability in two user studies.
2008
The prevalence of lifestyle-related health problems is increasing rapidly. Many of the diseases and health risks could be prevented or alleviated by making changes toward healthier lifestyles. We have developed the Wellness Diary (WD), a concept for personal and mobile wellness management based on Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy (CBT). Two implementations of the concept were made for the Symbian Series 60 (S60) mobile phone platform, and their usability, usage, and acceptance were studied in two 3-month user studies. Study I was related to weight management and study II to general wellness management. In both the studies, the concept and its implementations were well accepted and considered as…
Compliance and arthralgias in clinical therapy (COMPACT): Assessment of the incidence of arthralgia, therapy costs, and compliance in the first year …
2012
e11040^ Background: Aromatase Inhibitors (AI) are well established as adjuvant endocrine treatment for postmenopausal women with HR+ early breast cancer (EBC). However, clinical trial data show higher frequently of arthralgia with AI than tamoxifen. As arthralgia may be greatly influencing compliance to adjuvant therapy, we designed a prospective trial to collect real world data on the effects of AI-associated arthralgia on patient compliance, patient outcomes and treatment costs of arthralgia. Methods: COMPACT is an open, prospective non-interventional study (NCT00857012) assessing the incidence of arthralgia, therapy costs, and compliance within the first year of adjuvant anastrozole (AN…

5 Office-based Professional Association Gynecologic Oncologists e.V. in Germany (BNGO e.V.), Berlin; 6 Background: This prospective study evaluated the relationship between arthralgia and compliance during the first year of adjuvant anastrozole therapy in postmenopausal women with hormone receptor-positive early breast cancer. Patients and methods: COMPliance and Arthralgia in Clinical Therapy (COMPACT) was an open-label, multicenter, noninterventional study conducted in Germany. Patients had started adjuvant anastrozole 3-6 months before the study start. The primary end points were arthralgia, compliance, and the relationship between compliance and arthralgia, assessed at specific time poi…

Background Aromatase inhibitors (AI) are well established as adjuvant endocrine treatment for postmenopausal women with hormone receptor-positive (HR+) early breast cancer (EBC). Drug-induced myalgia or arthralgia is among the most frequently reported adverse drug reactions to AIs. Objectives Little is known about the pathomechanism by which AIs cause muscle and joint injury. The literature on skeletal muscle complaints with AIs is confusing, in part because of a lack of clear definitions. Myalgia/arthralgia is defined as muscle/joint pain and is likely to affect patients’ quality of life and compliance with AI medication . We designed a prospective trial to collect real world data on the e…
Compliance and resistance : An investigation into the construction of gender identities by Pakistani women on Facebook
2020
Facebook has recently gained popularity among young, digitally literate and predominantly urban Pakistanis. Such social networking sites allow users the freedom to express themselves using usernames, visuals and topics of their own choice. In this article, I examine how Pakistani Facebook users mobilize such resources in their identity work. Using Multimodal Discourse Analysis, I investigate how Pakistani women construct their gender identities on Facebook using visual and linguistic resources. The results revealed the significant impact of Facebook on the socio-cultural and linguistic norms of discourse in Pakistan that enables women to challenge established communication models while they…
Early Career Women in Academia: An Exploration of Networking Perceptions
2016
This chapter explores women’s networking perceptions by focusing on early career women in social sciences. Within an exploratory research design it asks how early career women define the early career stage in academia, what definitions, meanings and interpretations they give for networks and networking, how they construct the networking process and their ability to establish and/or join networks, as early career researchers and as women. Based on two group interviews with 12 participants, our findings show that early career women in academia favour networking with peers based on shared interests (organic networking). At the same time though, they challenge and step over the perceived gender…
Toward a stage theory of the development of employees’ information security behavior
2020
Existing behavioral information security research proposes continuum or non-stage models that focus on finding static determinants for information security behavior (ISB) that remains unchanged. Such models cannot explain a case where the reasons for ISB change. However, the underlying reasons and motives for users’ ISB are not static but may change over time. To understand the change in reasoning between different antecedents, we examine stage theorizing in other fields and develop the requirements for an emergent theory of the development of employees’ ISB: (1) the content of stages based on the stage elements and their stage-specific attributes; (2) the stage-independent element explaini…
