Genesi geometrica delle volte centriche
1996
Age slowing down in detection and visual discrimination under varying presentation times
2017
[EN] The reaction time has been described as a measure of perception, decision making, and other cognitive processes. The aim of this work is to examine agerelated changes in executive functions in terms of demand load under varying presentation times. Two tasks were employed where a signal detection and a discrimination task were performed by young and older university students. Furthermore, a characterization of the response time distribution by an exGaussian fit was carried out. The results indicated that the older participants were slower than the younger ones in signal detection and discrimination. Moreover, the differences between both processes for the older participants were higher,…
Synchronization to metrical levels in music depends on low-frequency spectral components and tempo
2016
Previous studies have found relationships between music-induced movement and musical characteristics on more general levels, such as tempo or pulse clarity. This study focused on synchronization abilities to music of finely-varying tempi and varying degrees of low frequency spectral change/flux. Excerpts from six classic Motown/R&B songs at three different tempos (105, 115, and 130 BPM) were used as stimuli in this experiment. Each was then time-stretched by a factor of 5% with regards to the original tempo, yielding a total of 12 stimuli that were presented to 30 participants. Participants were asked to move along with the stimuli while being recorded with an optical motion capture system.…
Learning-induced neural plasticity of speech processing before birth
2013
Learning, the foundation of adaptive and intelligent behavior, is based on plastic changes in neural assemblies, reflected by the modulation of electric brain responses. In infancy, auditory learning implicates the formation and strengthening of neural long-term memory traces, improving discrimination skills, in particular those forming the prerequisites for speech perception and understanding. Although previous behavioral observations show that newborns react differentially to unfamiliar sounds vs. familiar sound material that they were exposed to as fetuses, the neural basis of fetal learning has not thus far been investigated. Here we demonstrate direct neural correlates of human fetal l…
Solid cheese consumption: Quantification of oral coating
2011
International audience; Mouth coating, defined as the residual food that sticks to the oral surface after food ingestion, plays an important role in both the delivery of food components and mouth feel and after-feel perceptions. The aim of this work was to adapt a rapid and simple instrumental method to the quantification of food remaining after the in vivo ingestion of a solid food. This method was investigated in 12 non-trained subjects who consumed four melted cheeses differing in terms of their fat and water contents. Mouth coating was determined by fluorescence measurements using curcumin, an oil-soluble dye that had been added to the cheeses during their preparation. The results obtai…
TITAFORM - Precision Hot Forming, development of innovative hot-forming processes of aeronautical components in Ti-alloy with low buy/fly ratio: an I…
2012
In the paper the description of the project TITAFORM is provided. The project has been financed on the call "PON Linea 1" of the Italian government and represents an effective example of cooperation between academy and industry. The project is focused on the beta forging and hot stretch forming operations of titanium alloys. 2012 Wiley-VCH Verlag GmbH & Co. KGaA, Weinheim.
Selected plant essential oils and their main active components, a promising approach to inhibit aflatoxigenic fungi and aflatoxin production in food.
2018
Recent research has showed that Aspergillus flavus and Aspergillus parasiticus are aflatoxigenic species that can become very competitive in the framework of climate change. Aflatoxins show carcinogenic, mutagenic, immunotoxic and teratogenic effects on human and animals. Effective and sustainable measures to inhibit these species and aflatoxins in food are required. Origanum vulgare and Cinnamomum zeylanicum essential oils (EOs) and their major active constituents, carvacrol and cinnamaldehyde, respectively, were assayed for inhibiting these species and aflatoxin production in maize extract medium under different environmental conditions. Doses of 10-1000 mg l
On Hurwitz spaces of coverings with one special fiber
2009
Let X X' Y be a covering of smooth, projective complex curves such that p is a degree 2 etale covering and f is a degree d covering, with monodromy group Sd, branched in n + 1 points one of which is a special point whose local monodromy has cycle type given by the partition e = (e1,...,er) of d. We study such coverings whose monodromy group is either W(Bd) or wN(W(Bd))(G1)w-1 for some w in W(Bd), where W(Bd) is the Weyl group of type Bd, G1 is the subgroup of W(Bd) generated by reflections with respect to the long roots ei - ej and N(W(Bd))(G1) is the normalizer of G1. We prove that in both cases the corresponding Hurwitz spaces are not connected and hence are not irreducible. In fact, we s…
Yield, pomological characteristics, bioactive compounds and antioxidant activity of Annona cherimola Mill. grown in mediterranean climate
2019
The agronomic and qualitative responses of the cherimoya (Annona cherimola Mill.) fruit grown in Mediterranean climate are not properly studied. Fruits of Fino de Jete, the most diffused worldwide cultivar of cherimoya, and Torre 1 a new genotype obtained by breeding program in Sicily, Italy, were collected at commercial ripening and subjected to productive (yield efficiency, number of fruits, crop load), analytical (fruit weight, transversal diameter, longitudinal diameter, total soluble solid content, titratable acidity, seed weight, seed number, peel and pulp weight, pulp/seed ratio and colorimetric analysis), bioactive compound content (total antioxidant activity, Phenolic and Carotenoi…
Artemisia herba-alba essential oil from Buseirah (South Jordan): Chemical characterization and assessment of safe antifungal and anti-inflammatory do…
2015
Abstract Ethnopharmacologic relevance Artemisia herba-alba Asso (“desert wormwood” in English; “armoise blanche” in French; “shaih” in Arabic), is a medicinal and strongly aromatic plant widely used in traditional medicine by many cultures since ancient times. It is used to treat inflammatory disorders (colds, coughing, bronchitis, diarrhea), infectious diseases (skin diseases, scabies, syphilis) and others (diabetes, neuralgias). In Jordanian traditional medicine, this plant is used as antiseptic and against skin diseases, scabies, syphilis, fever as well as menstrual and nervous disorders. Aim of the study Considering the traditional medicinal uses and the lack of scientific studies addre…
