Halloysite nanotubes as polyolefin fillers

Artykuł stanowi przegląd najnowszej literatury dotyczącej nanokompozytów poliolefinowych napełnianych nanorurkami haloizytowymi (HNT). Omówiono wpływ dodatku HNT na osnowę poliolefinową, ze szczególnym uwzględnieniem morfologii oraz właściwości mechanicznych nanokompozytów poliolefina/HNT. Interaction in POSS-poly(ethylene-co-acrylic acid) nanocomposites

Use of polyhedral oligomeric silsesquioxane (POSS) in polymer-based nanocomposites is promising for the design of high-performance materials for several applications. In this study, nanocomposites based on ethylene-acrylic acid (EAA) copolymer and POSS molecules were prepared by melt mixing. In particular, partial cage POSS with different pendent organic groups was used to investigate the interaction between the –OH groups of POSS and the acrylic functionalities of the matrix. A study was made on the effect of small amounts of organically modified clay on the morphology and mechanical properties of blends of low-density polyethylene and polyamide 11 at different compositions. The influence of the filler on the blend morphology was investigated using wide angle X-ray diffractometry, scanning and transmission electron microscopy and selective extraction experiments. Nanocomposites for Novel Sensing Systems

The work performed under the National Research Program of Latvia and presented here is about advanced, chemical stimuli responsive materials. Sensor materials are produced on the basis of metallophthalocyanines or zirconia nanocrystals with the purpose of detecting small size molecular compounds like NH3, O2 and O3. Polymer/nanostructured carbon composite is produced to detect large size molecular compounds like organic vapour. Basic gaseous compound sensing principles are discussed within this paper.

Compatibilization of a polyethylene/polyamide 6 blend nanocomposite

Polymer blends of incompatible components need to be compatibilized to give rise to a blend with good properties. At the same way, polymer/clay nanocomposites show the same problem because of different chemical nature of the polymer matrix and of the clay. Compatibilization is then necessary if an incompatible polymer blend is filled with an organomodified clay. Metal-polymer nanocomposite resist: a step towards in-situ nanopatterns metallization

In this work we propose an alternative method for the fabrication of metal micro/nanostructures from metal-polymer nanocomposite resists and their subsequent electroless metallization. Photoluminescence waveguiding in CdSe and CdTe QDs–PMMA nanocomposite films

In this paper, active planar waveguides based on the incorporation of CdSe and CdTe nanocrystal quantum dots in a polymer matrix are demonstrated. In the case of doping the polymer with both types of quantum dots, the nanocomposite film guides both emitted colors, green (550 nm, CdTe) and orange (600 nm, CdSe). The optical pumping laser can be coupled not only with a standard end-fire coupling system, but also directing the beam to the surface of the sample, indicating a good absorption cross-section and waveguide properties.
