La texture en musique : sa contribution pour la composition, l'apprentissage de la musique et ses effets sur la perception musicale et la cognition d…
2019
In the second half of the 20th century, the emergence of the notion of texture created new perspectives in the field of composition and music understanding. Today, it is clear that this notion became a valuable and major tool to analyse music by exceeding classic elements such as note, interval, rhythm, melody, and so on. The first part will be dedicated to define exactly this notion, and to analyze its use in the contemporary repertory and to introduce some thougths on its status in musicology. The second part will approach the question of deaf children hearing perception based on behavioral studies. The evaluation of the perceptual skills of deaf children in the field of music suffering a…
Crossing Boundaries: Why Physics Can Help Understand Economics
2019
Socio-economic systems can often successfully be treated as complex systems in the statistical physics sense. This means that the complexity resides in the emerging dynamical behaviour, not in a complicated composition. In order to understand why physics can help to understand socio-economic phenomena with complex behaviour in this sense, I argue that it is necessary to adopt a structural perspective. Accordingly, one has to modify the notion of mechanistic explanations, partly by broadening it. One crucial tool for finding mechanistic explanations in such a structural sense, are minimal models, i.e. models that abstract from micro details in a drastic way. I will show why mechanistic expla…
Prefix Stripping Re-Re-Revisited: MEG Investigations of Morphological Decomposition and Recomposition
2019
We revisit a long-standing question in the psycholinguistic and neurolinguistic literature on comprehending morphologically complex words: are prefixes and suffixes processed using the same cognitive mechanisms? Recent work using Magnetoencephalography (MEG) to uncover the dynamic temporal and spatial responses evoked by visually presented complex suffixed single words provide us with a comprehensive picture of morphological processing in the brain, from early, form-based decomposition, through lexical access, grammatically constrained recomposition, and semantic interpretation. In the present study, we find that MEG responses to prefixed words reveal interesting early differences in the la…
A Generalised RBF Finite Difference Approach to Solve Nonlinear Heat Conduction Problems on Unstructured Datasets
2011
Radial Basis Functions have traditionally been used to provide a continuous interpolation of scattered data sets. However, this interpolation also allows for the reconstruction of partial derivatives throughout the solution field, which can then be used to drive the solution of a partial differential equation. Since the interpolation takes place on a scattered dataset with no local connectivity, the solution is essentially meshless. RBF-based methods have been successfully used to solve a wide variety of PDEs in this fashion. Such full-domain RBF methods are highly flexible and can exhibit spectral convergence rates Madych & Nelson (1990). However, in their traditional implementation the fu…
Bioaccessibility and decomposition of cylindrospermopsin in vegetables matrices after the application of an in vitro digestion model.
2018
Research on the human exposure to Cylindrospermopsin (CYN) via consumption of contaminated food is of great interest for risk assessment purposes. The aim of this work is to evaluate for the first time the CYN bioaccessibility in contaminated vegetables (uncooked lettuce and spinach, and boiled spinach) after an in vitro digestion model, including the salivar, gastric and duodenal phases and, colonic fermentation under lactic acid bacteria. The results obtained showed that the digestion processes are able to diminish CYN levels, mainly in the colonic phase, especially in combination with the boiling treatment, decreasing CYN levels in a significant way. Moreover, the potential decomposition…
Effect of lambing season on ewe’s colostrum composition
2023
Colostrum provides newborns with nutrients and immunoglobulins that play a major role in the immune system. In this survey, the immunoglobulin G (IgG) content, gross composition, mineral content, and fatty acid composition were determined in the colostrum of Valle del Belice ewes with the aim of evaluating the effect of lambing of season. In total, we analysed 60 bulk tank colostrum samples taken after lambing during two seasons (summer and winter). The IgG con- tent and Brix mean values were 40.35 g/L and 21.02%, respectively. The colostrum fat, protein, casein, and lactose percentages were 8.01, 12.10, 8.51, and 3.13%, respectively. The lambing sea- son significantly influenced the pH and…
A counterexample to Feit's Problem VIII on decomposition numbers
2016
We find a counterexample to Feit's Problem VIII on the bound of decomposition numbers. This also answers a question raised by T. Holm and W. Willems.
Quasianalytic Denjoy-Carleman classes and o-minimality
2003
We show that the expansion of the real field generated by the functions of a quasianalytic Denjoy-Carleman class is model complete and o-minimal, provided that the class satisfies certain closure conditions. Some of these structures do not admit analytic cell decomposition, and they show that there is no largest o-minimal expansion of the real field.
The Jordan-Hölder theorem and prefrattini subgroups of finite groups
1995
by A. BALLESTER-BOLINCHES and L. M. EZQUERRO(Received 26 January, 1994)Introduction. All groups considered are finite. In recent years a number ofgeneralizations of the classic Jordan-Holder Theorem have been obtained (see [7],Theorem A.9.13): in a finite group G a one-to-one correspondence as in the Jordan-Holder Theorem can be defined preserving not only G-isomorphic chief factors but eventheir property of being Frattini or non-Frattini chief factors. In [2] and [13] a newdirection of generalization is presented: the above correspondence can be defined in sucha way that the corresponding non-Frattini chief factors have the same complement(supplement). In this paper we present a necessary a…
