Effects of Mediterranean Diet Combined with CrossFit Training on Trained Adults’ Performance and Body Composition
2022
CrossFit is a high-intensity training discipline increasingly practiced in recent years. Specific nutritional approaches are usually recommended to maximize performance and improve body composition in high-intensity training regimens; notwithstanding, to date there are no targeted nutritional recommendations for CrossFit athletes. The Mediterranean Diet (MD) is a diet approach with a well-designed proportion of macronutrients, using only available/seasonal food of the Mediterranean area, whose health benefits are well demonstrated. No studies have evaluated this dietary strategy among CrossFit athletes and practitioners; for this reason, we tested the effects of 8 weeks of MD on CrossFit at…
Hybrid DFT calculations of theFcenters in cubic ABO3perovskites
2008
We employed the hybrid DFT-LCAO approach as implemented in the CRYSTAL code for 135 atom supercell calculations of O vacancies with trapped electrons (known as the F centers) in three cubic perovskite crystals: SrTiO3, PbTiO3 and PbZrO3. The local lattice relaxation, charge redistribution and defect energy levels in the optical gap are compared. We demonstrate how difference in a chemical composition of host materials leads to quite different defect properties.
Structural effects of Co and Cr substitution in LaMnO3 + δ
2000
Series of perovskite oxides with the composition LaMn1 − xMxO3 + δ (M = Cr, Co; 0 ≤ x ≤ 1) have been synthesized by thermal treatment of precursors obtained by freeze-drying of acetic acid solutions. The oxides have been characterized by X-ray diffraction, and the Mn4+ content and, thus, the oxygen excess, δ, has been determined by redox back-titration. LaMnO3.14 and LaCrO3 phases have the rhombohedral-LaAlO3 and the orthorhombic-GdFeO3 structures, respectively. The LaMn1 − xCrxO3 + δ phases have the rhombohedral structure for x ≤ 0.3, and the orthorhombic structure for x ≥ 0.5. LaCoO3 has, as LaMnO3.14, the rhombohedral structure. However, the LaMn1 − xCoxO3 + δ phases have orthorhombic st…
Influence of diamagnetic impurity on mid‐IR absorption in antiferromagnetic insulator NiO
2005
-1 was studied in polycrystalline Ni c Mg 1-c O solid solutions with c=0.99, 0.98, 0.97, 0.95, 0.90, 0.80, 0.70 and 0.60. The composition and temperature dependences of the absorption suggest that the band has magnetic origin re- lated to simultaneous excitation of two-magnons at the Brillouin-zone boundary and one phonon. -1 in polycrystalline NicMg1-cO solid solutions. Polycrystalline solid solutions NicMg1-cO (c=0.99, 0.98, 0.97, 0.95, 0.90, 0.80, 0.70 and 0.60) were prepared using ceramic technology from the appropriate amounts of aqueous solutions of Mg(NO3)2·6H2O and Ni(NO3)2·6H2O salts, which were mixed and slowly evaporated. The remaining dry 'flakes' were heated up to 500-600 oC to…
Crystal Structures and Thermal Behavior of Isostructural Bis(dibenzyldimethylammonium) Tetrachlorometallate [M = Mn(II), Co(II), Ni(II) and Zn(II)] S…
2007
Five isostructural bis(dibenzyldimethylammonium) tetrachlorometallate solvate complexes [M = Mn(II), Co(II), Ni(II) or Zn(II)] were crystallized from acetonitrile and/or methanol solutions. The crystal structures are compared to those of the analogous, isostructural copper compounds (X = Cl or Br) reported earlier. The complexes crystallize in the monoclinic space group P21/n with Z = 4, and unit cell dimensions of a ≈ 14.1, b ≈ 16.1, c ≈ 15.7 °A and β ≈ 108 - 109°. The asymmetric unit of these compounds contains one MCl4 2− anion, two Bz2Me2N+ cations in theW-conformation and one half of a disordered solvent molecule (acetonitrile or methanol). The geometry of the MCl4 2− anion is close to…
De La Biografia Històrica a la Novel·la Cavalleresca: El Paper Dels Cavallers Francesos Al Victorial i Al Curial e Güelfa
2010
Between 1400 and 1412 (forty years before the writing of Curial e Guelfa), a reduced number of French and Catalan soldiers and knights —Boucicaut, Guillaume du Chastel and Pere Cervello— were involved in a series of chivalric warfare and military actions, which must have been the inspiration for the composition of some Catalan (Curial e Guelfa) and French fictions (Le petit Jehan of Saintre by Antoine de La Sale). Taking into account the references to these characters, places, and actions included in El Victorial —Count Pero Nino's Castilian biography—, this article tries to analyze the impact of the fame of these European knights, whose outstanding feats were widely celebrated by history, …
Nachweis des di-2-cyanoisopropylperoxides bei der zersetzung von azoisobuttersäuredinitril in gegenwart von sauerstoff
1970
Di-2-cyanoisopropylperoxide is formed when azobisisobutyronitrile is decomposed under oxygen in isobutyronitrile as a solvent. The yield amounts to ca. 5%. Thermal decom…
Tensor decomposition of EEG signals: A brief review
2015
Electroencephalography (EEG) is one fundamental tool for functional brain imaging. EEG signals tend to be represented by a vector or a matrix to facilitate data processing and analysis with generally understood methodologies like time-series analysis, spectral analysis and matrix decomposition. Indeed, EEG signals are often naturally born with more than two modes of time and space, and they can be denoted by a multi-way array called as tensor. This review summarizes the current progress of tensor decomposition of EEG signals with three aspects. The first is about the existing modes and tensors of EEG signals. Second, two fundamental tensor decomposition models, canonical polyadic decomposit…
Three-dimensional numerical simulations on wind- and tide-induced currents: The case of Augusta Harbour (Italy)
2014
The hydrodynamic circulation in the coastal area of the Augusta Bay (Italy), located in the eastern part of Sicily, is analysed. Due to the heavy contamination generated by the several chemical and petrochemical industries active in the zone, the harbour was declared a Contaminated Site of National Interest. To mitigate the risks connected with the industrial activities located near the harbour, it is important to analyse the hydrodynamic circulation in the coastal area. To perform such analysis, a parallel 3D numerical model is used to solve the Reynolds-averaged momentum and mass balance, employing the k-e turbulence model for the Reynolds stresses. The numerical model is parallelized usi…
A Fatty Acid Based Bayesian Approach for Inferring Diet in Aquatic Consumers
2015
We modified the stable isotope mixing model MixSIR to infer primary producer contributions to consumer diets based on their fatty acid composition. To parameterize the algorithm, we generated a 'consumer-resource library' of FA signatures of Daphnia fed different algal diets, using 34 feeding trials representing diverse phytoplankton lineages. This library corresponds to the resource or producer file in classic Bayesian mixing models such as MixSIR or SIAR. Because this library is based on the FA profiles of zooplankton consuming known diets, and not the FA profiles of algae directly, trophic modification of consumer lipids is directly accounted for. To test the model, we simulated hypothet…
