Simplified model of mean double step (MDS) in human body movement

In this paper we present a simplified and useful model of the human body movement based on the full gait cycle description, called the Mean Double Step (MDS). It enables the parameterization and simplification of the human movement. Furthermore it allows a description of the gait cycle by providing standardized estimators to transform the gait cycle into a periodical movement process. Bluetooth throughput measures for cardiomyocyte extracellular signal telemetry

In this contribution the suitability of the Bluetooth transmission system is analyzed for its application to the realtime transmission of cardiac signals captured by micro-electrode array sensors. The required data rates for this type of cardiac signals are calculated to be 180 kbps for every single micro- electrode. The mean throughput value varies with the selected packet size: for packet sizes less than 1000 bytes the mean throughput is smaller than 180 kbps while for packet sizes greater than 1000 bytes the mean throughput saturates at around 230 kbps. AbstractIn this paper, a novel approach has been followed based on FEM simulation and Topology Optimization tools to locate and model the reinforcements inside the hull of a sailing dinghy. Merging the transform step and the quantization step for Karhunen-Loeve transform based image compression

Transform coding is one of the most important methods for lossy image compression. The optimum linear transform - known as Karhunen-Loeve transform (KLT) - was difficult to implement in the classic way. Now, due to continuous improvements in neural network's performance, the KLT method becomes more topical then ever. We propose a new scheme where the quantization step is merged together with the transform step during the learning phase. The new method is tested for different levels of quantization and for different types of quantizers. Experimental results presented in the paper prove that the new proposed scheme always gives better results than the state-of-the-art solution.

Calibration of a knock prediction model for the combustion of gasoline-LPG mixtures in spark ignition engines

Gaseous fuels, such as liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) and natural gas (NG), thanks to their good mixing capabilities, allow complete and cleaner combustion than gasoline in spark ignition (SI) engines, resulting in lower pollutant emissions and particulate matter. In a previous work the authors showed that the simultaneous combustion of gasoline and LPG improves an SI engine efficiency with respect to pure gasoline operation with any significant power loss. Purpose The comparison of volume rendering (VR) and surface rendering (SSD) for demonstrating fractures from spiral-CT data. Materials and methods Standardized VR and SSD projections were produced from 50 spiral CT scans of 50 consecutive patients with fractures. Appropriate multiplanar reformattings (MPR) were used as the standard. Results SSD provided sufficient information in 31/50 cases. Results of VR were not significantly different (33/50). Within the past five years, 3D ultrasonography has developed to the degree that it offers both the patient and the examiner an entirely new visual experience in prenatal diagnosis. With the system described here (Kretz-technik, Austria), any desired plane can be displayed within the stored volume, and within seconds a high-quality 3D surface or transparent image can be calculated and displayed on the ultrasound monitor without need for an external workstation. A Digital Watermarking Algorithm Based on Quantization of the DCT: Application on Medical Imaging

International audience; The objective of this paper is to elaborate a new watermarking algorithm applied to the medical imaging. This algorithm must be invisible, robust and has a rate, relatively high, integrating data. The proposed method uses the standard JPEG compression for the integration of medical data. The insertion block is inserted just after the quantization phase. To control identification and eventually the correction (if possible) of the inserted data, we use a series of turbocodes to recover the inserted data, after application of several attacks. The simulation studies are applied on MRI medicals images.
