Ab Initio Study of Stereo- and Regioselectivity in the Diels−Alder Reaction between 2-Phenylcyclopentadiene and α-(Methylthio)acrylonitrile

1997

Ab initio molecular orbital calculations have been used to investigate the Diels−Alder reaction between 2-phenylcyclopentadiene and α-(methylthio)acrylonitrile. Geometry optimizations were performed with the RHF/3-21G, RHF/3-21G*, and RHF/6-31G* calculations while the correlation energy has been calculated at MP2 and MP3 levels. Four asynchronous transition structures corresponding to the formation of different stereoisomers and regioisomers associated with the four reaction channels have been located. The observed endo/exo stereoselectivity and para/meta regioselectivity are correctly described at all levels of calculation, and the calculated activation energies reflect accurately the rela…

Preparation, reactivity and tautomeric preferences of novel (1H-quinolin-2-ylidene)propan-2-ones

2006

1,1-Difluoro-3-(1H-quinolin-2-ylidene)propan-2-one 1a, 1,1,1-trifluoro-3-(1H-quinolin-2-ylidene)propan-2-one 1b, 1,1,1-trifluoro-3-(4-chloro-1H-quinolin-2-ylidene)propan-2-one 1c and 1,3-dibromo-1,1-difluoro-3-(2-quinolyl)propan-2-one 2 are prepared and characterized by various spectroscopic techniques. The crystal structure of 1a is determined by X-ray diffraction. Furthermore, a series of previously known non-halogenated (1H-quinolin-2-ylidene)propan-2-ones 1d-1h are oxidized with AgBrO3 in the presence of AlCl3. In all cases, 2-(1-bromo-1-chloromethyl)quinoline 3 is obtained in high yield. The bromination order and sites of 1a are analyzed based on ab initio MP2 and DFT calculations for …

ChemInform Abstract: First Synthesis of the Chiral Mixed O/S Ligands, 1,2-Sulfinyl Thiols: Application as Chiral Proton Sources in Enantioselective P…

2001

Abstract A suitable method for the preparation of the chiral mixed O/S ligands 1,2-sulfinyl thiols is described. These compounds have then been used as a chiral proton source in the enantioselective protonation of 2-methyl tetralone enolate and the results are compared with those obtained from the analogous alcohols. A theoretical model is proposed to explain the different behaviors exhibited in the protonation reaction for each of these proton sources. Configurational assignments for the new chiral thiols have been carried out by means of X-ray analysis.

Electrochemical determination of the stability of complexes formed by proton-ionizable ligands of 3,5-disubstituted 1H-pyrazole with phenethylamine

1999

The application of two extreme models for diffusion in two-component systems to electrochemically determine equilibrium constants is discussed. The application of cyclic voltammetric, diferential pulse and rotating-disc electrode voltammetric data to elucidate the stoichiometry and formation constant of complex species by applying a generalization of the molar-ratio method is described. Molar-ratio experiments permit the distinction between the limiting diffusive regimes. The values of the equilibrium stability constants for complexation of phenethylamine and phenethylammonium ions by a 26-membered dioxotetraester crown of 3,5-disubstituted 1H-pyrazole as free ligand 1[L] and as dipyrazolat…

Structure and dynamics of RNA guanine quadruplexes in SARS-CoV-2 genome. Original strategies against emerging viruses

2021

Guanine quadruplexes (G4) structures in viral genome have a key role in modulating viruses’ biological activity. While several DNA G4 structures have been experimentally resolved, RNA G4s are definitely less explored. We report the first calculated G4 structure of the RG-1 RNA sequence of SARS-CoV-2 genome, obtained by using a multiscale approach combining quantum and classical molecular modelling and corroborated by the excellent agreement between the corresponding calculated and experimental circular dichroism spectra. We prove the stability of RG-1 G4 arrangement as well as its interaction with G4 ligands potentially inhibiting viral protein translation.

Gold assisted oxygen dissociation on a molybdenum-doped CaO(001) surface

2016

Using density functional theory (DFT) calculations, we address the adsorption of O2 and the coadsorption of gold species and oxygen molecules on a Mo-doped CaO(001) surface with 1.25% impurity concentration. With the help of the Born–Haber thermodynamic cycle, the enhanced binding of an oxygen molecule on Ca(Mo)O is attributed to energy gain owing to simultaneous electron transfer from the dopant to the molecule and lattice relaxations. We consider three coadsorption structures for an Au atom and O2 molecule with different Au–O2 distances. The calculations demonstrate that the coadsorption structures take one electron from the dopant and the O–Au–O chain structure is thermodynamically more …

l-Arabinose Conformers Adsorption on Ruthenium Surfaces: A DFT Study

2012

Adsorption of 5 L-arabinose tautomers – one acyclic and four cyclic (α and β, pyranose and furanose) species – on a ruthenium surface was studied as a precursor-process of the, nowadays more and more, industrially important sugar catalytic hydrogenation on metal surfaces in water medium. The study was mostly referred to a 37-atom metal catalyst fragment, even though border-effects on the adsorption processes were also checked employing a 61-atom metal fragment. In order to figure out conformational effects on the title process the tautomer flexibility was, at first, investigated by the genetic-algorithm based code Balloon, considering the conformational spaces of the different aquo tautomer…

Formation of meso-1,2-Bis(dimethylamino)-1,2-diphenylethane by Oxidative C-C Coupling Reaction

2005

The title compound was obtained from the reaction of N,N-dimethylbenzylamine with n-butyl lithium and sulfur in tetrahydrofuran at room temperature. Its molecular structure was investigated by means of single crystal X-ray diffraction and quantum chemical DFT methods. The formation of meso-1,2-bis(dimethylamino)-1,2-diphenylethane is likely to be due to an unusual α-deprotonation of N,N-dimethylbenzylamine, instead of the well known ortho-lithiation, with a subsequent oxidative C-C coupling of the anions. Ab initio calculations of the corresponding α- and o-deprotonated anions of N,N-dimethylbenzylamine showed the former to be more stable than the latter, due to delocalisation of the negati…

A New pH-Dependent Macrocyclic Rhodamine B-Based Fluorescent Probe for Copper Detection in White Wine

2019

For efficiently measuring copper (II) ions in the acidic media of white wine, a new chemosensor based on rhodamine B coupled to a tetraazamacrocyclic ring (13aneN4CH2NH2) was designed and synthesized by a one-pot reaction using ethanol as a green solvent. The obtained chemosensor was characterized via NMR, UV and fluorescent spectra. It was marked with no color emission under neutral pH conditions, with a pink color emission under acidic conditions, and a magenta color emission under acidic conditions where copper (II) ions were present. The sensitivity towards copper (II) ions was tested and verified over Ca2+, Ag+, Zn2+, Mg2+, Co2+, Ni2+, Fe2+, Pb2+, Cd2+, Fe3+, and Mn2+, with a detection…
