The paper deals with geographical names in Silesia deriving from the names of tree species. An analysis of the names derived from appellatives, allows for a reconstruction of the categorization methods of the world, anthropological conceptualization, and a popular image of reality. The article aims to analyze different metaphorical conceptualizations of the European Union in The Guardian discourse. The corpus of news texts subject to analysis comes from a manually compiled 930,000-word corpus of news articles, retrieved from The Guardian from May 2004 through December 2009. The analysis focuses on four most frequent metaphors identified in the corpus, namely, THE EU IS A HOUSE and THE EU IS AN ELITE CLUB, which are used in the context of the accession of new countries to the EU and the related problem of immigration, as well as THE EU IS A BOAT and THE EU IS A MACHINE, which are embedded in the context of internal EU tensions concerning home affairs. Consumers' attitude towards rice cooking processes in Korea, Japan, Thailand and France

A picture-word matching task was conducted in order to compare consumer's opinion on seven common rice-cooking processes (rinsing, soaking, adding other kinds of rice, cereals, and beans, brown rice germination, rapid-boiling, pressure-cooking, and steaming) in Korea, Japan, Thailand, and France. Utopianism in the Age of Capitalocene

This article explores the social and political imagination of ‘the Anthropocene’ and the utopian counter images that can be derived from it. From the utopian studies perspective, I argue that the Anthropocene cannot provide sufficient societal alternatives for the current ecological predicament. This is due to the fact that the concept of Anthropocene relies too heavily on the image of abstract humanity to be able to offer real societal alternatives.
