Effect of N-substitution in multinuclear complexes allows interplay between magnetic states and multistability investigated by Mössbauer spectroscopy
2006
A series of pentadentate ligands N-X-5LH2 (X=H, Methyl, Benzyl)=N-X-saldptn (4-X-N,N′-bis(l-hydroxy-2-benzylidene)-1,7-diamino-4-azaheptane) has been prepared by a Schiff base condensation between 1,7-diamino-4-X-azaheptane and salicylaldehyde. Complexation with Fe(III) yields a series of high-spin (S=5/2) complexes of [FeIII(N-X-5L)Cl]. Such precursors were combined with [Mo(CN)8]4− and a series of blue nonanuclear cluster compounds [MoIV(CN)FeIII(N-X-5L)8]Cl4 resulted. Such star-shaped nonanuclear compounds are high-spin systems at room temperature. On cooling to 10K some of the iron(III) centers switched to the low-spin state as proven by Mossbauer spectra, i.e. multiple electronic trans…
A resorcinol derived calix[5]arene with C5-symmetry
1994
Abstract Condensation of 2,4-dihydroxy-3-hydroxymethyl benzophenone (4) in dioxane/H2SO4 gave the cyclic pentamer 5, a calix[5]arene with regular incorporation of the resorcinol units via their 2- and 6-positions. The structure follows from the 1H NMR and mass spectra and was further confirmed by single crystal X-ray analysis. Dynamic NMR in C2D2Cl4 gave a surprisingly high barrier of ΔG‡ = 17.3 kcal/mol for the cone-to-cone ring inversion.
Cyclocondensation of alpha-aminonitriles and enones: a short access to 3,4-dihydro-2H-pyrrole 2-carbonitriles and 2,3,5-trisubstituted pyrroles.
2009
The reaction of alpha,beta-unsaturated carbonyl compounds with aminoacetonitrile hydrochloride furnishes 3,5-disubstituted 3,4-dihydro-2H-pyrrole-2-carbonitriles in a one-pot reaction sequence. While these products can serve as starting materials for the preparation of polysubstituted pyrrolizidines, they are kinetically stable against the base-induced elimination of HCN. In contrast, their 2-substituted analogues obtained from alpha-substituted alpha-aminonitriles can be readily converted to the corresponding 2,3,5-trisubstituted pyrroles under microwave irradiation. The key step presumably involves the thermal electrocyclization of a stabilized 2-azapentadienyl anion formed by condensatio…

Synthesis of Macromolecular Substances by Condensation Polymerization and Stepwise Addition Polymerization
2001
Condensation polymerizations (polycondensations) are stepwise reactions between bifunctional or polyfunctional components, with elimination of simple molecules such as water or alcohol and the formation of macromolecular substances. For the preparation of linear condensation polymers from bifunctional compounds (the same considerations apply to polyfunctional compounds which then lead to branched or crosslinked condensation polymers) there are basically two possibilities. One either starts from a monomer which has two unlike groups suitable for polycondensation (AB type), or one starts from two different monomers, each possessing a pair of identical reactive groups that can react with each …
Darstellung von Oligo[(hydroxy-1,3-phenylen)methylen]en mit Hydroxynitrophenylen- und Alkylhydroxyphenyleneinheiten
1981
Possibilities to synthesize substituted oligo[(hydroxy-1,3-phenylene)methylene]s containing hydroxynitrophenylene and alkylhydroxyphenylene units are discussed. The only successful way to introduce the hydroxynitrophenylene unit consists in the condensation of chloromethylated nitrophenols with an excess of alkylphenols. The resulting compounds can be prolonged stepwise at the alkylhydroxyphenylene end group by alternating hydroxymethylation and further condensation with alkylphenols. Thus, including the hydroxymethylated compounds, 11 dinuclear, 17 trinuclear, and 5 tetranuclear compounds were obtained for the first time. Some of them were characterized by their acetyl derivatives.

ChemInform Abstract: Synthesis of Trifluoromethylated 2-Benzoyl- and 2-Aminoimidazoles from Ring Rearrangement of 1,2,4-Oxadiazole Derivatives.
2008
Abstract Fluoroalkylated 2-ylamino-imidazoles have been synthesized by reaction of 3-amino-5-phenyl-1,2,4-oxadiazole with fluorinated β-dicarbonyl compounds and subsequent base-induced Boulton–Katritzky Rearrangement (BKR) of the isolated β-enaminocarbonyl intermediate. Alternatively, one-pot reactions performed in the presence of Montmorillonite K10 favoured the condensation at the 3-amino moiety of the oxadiazole and, in some cases, allowed the direct synthesis of 2-benzoylamino-imidazoles. Hydrolysis of 2-benzoylamino-imidazoles easily yielded fluorinated 2-amino-imidazoles targets.

(E,E,E)-4,4′-Distyrylstilbenes – Synthesis, Photophysics, Photochemistry and Phase Behavior

The fluorescence quantum yields F(n) of oligo[2,5-bis(propyloxy)-1,4-phenylenevinylene]s (1b) reach for the trimer (n = 3) in solution a maximum of 86 %, which is almost twice as high as for the monomer (n = 1) and the octamer or undecamer (n = 8, 11). The latter represent the convergence limit of 46 %. 4-Mono-, 3,4-di- or 3,4,5-trisubstituted terminal phenyl rings in the trimers 6a–f do not lead to calamitic or phasmidic liquid crystals; however, 2,3,4-trisubstitution with hexyloxy groups (6h) and even with OCH3 groups (6g) effects LC formation. Irradiation with energy-rich UV light provokes a crosslinking of the originally conjugated chains. In the case of 6c, a chemo- and stereoselective…
