Hole-doped Hubbard ladders
2005
The formation of stripes in six-leg Hubbard ladders with cylindrical boundary conditions is investigated for two different hole dopings, where the amplitude of the hole density modulation is determined in the limits of vanishing DMRG truncation errors and infinitely long ladders. The results give strong evidence that stripes exist in the ground state of these systems for strong but not for weak Hubbard couplings. The doping dependence of these findings is analysed.
Transverse effects in ring fiber laser multimode instabilities
2000
We study the influence of the transverse structure of pump and lasing fields and of the width of the doped region on the conditions for the appearance of the multimode instability in an ${\mathrm{Er}}^{3+}$-doped ring fiber laser. We show that the instability can be inhibited while maintaining a large output power when the radius of the doped region is a fraction of the core radius.
Step-Edge Induced Anisotropic Domain-Wall Propagation
1999
We report the observation of anisotropic domain-wall propagation in ultrathin magnetic films with perpendicular anisotropy. A controlled density of step edges was introduced which allowed us to quantify its influence on the domain-wall pinning. For a sawtooth arrangement of the step edges the corresponding wall movement resulted in triangular shaped domains. All aspects of this anisotropic domain-wall evolution could be reproduced by a simulation based on a modified Ginzburg-Landau-type soft-spin model.
Arrays of normal metal tunnel junctions in weak Coulomb blockade regime
1995
Universal features of I–V characteristics of one‐dimensional arrays of normal metal tunnel junctions have been tested against inhomogenities in the junction parameters, number of junctions in the array, and magnetic field. We find that the differential conductance versus bias voltage obeys the analytic form to within 1% if the fabrication errors are smaller than 10% in junction areas, and if the array has more than ten junctions. Furthermore, the universal relation is insensitive to magnetic field at least up to 8 T.
Influence of electromagnetic boundary conditions onto the onset of dynamo action in laboratory experiments
2009
We study the onset of dynamo action of the Riga and Karlsruhe experiments with the addition of an external wall, the electro-magnetic properties of which being different from those of the fluid in motion. We consider a wall of different thickness, conductivity and permeability. We also consider the case of a ferro-fluid in motion.
Thermal Transport and Wiedemann-Franz Law in the Disordered Fermi Liquid
2014
We study thermal transport in the disordered Fermi liquid at low temperatures. Gravitational potentials are used as sources for finding the heat density and its correlation function. For a comprehensive study, we extend the renormalization group (RG) analysis developed for electric transport by including the gravitational potentials into the RG scheme. Our analysis reveals that the Wiedemann-Franz law remains valid even in the presence of quantum corrections caused by the interplay of diffusion modes and the electron electron interaction. In the present scheme this fundamental relation is closely connected with a fixed point in the multi-parametric RG-flow of the gravitational potentials.
A Lagrangian Approach to the Electromechanical Aspects of the Superconducting Magnets for Maglev
1994
The superconducting magnets for Maglev are exposed during their operation to strong time dependent fields, which can cause losses and therefore can affect the stability of the magnets. In this work the electromechanical behaviour of a superconducting magnet, which is used as field magnet of a linear synchronous motor, is examined.
Probing High Frequency Noise with Macroscopic Resonant Tunneling
2011
We have developed a method for extracting the high-frequency noise spectral density of an rf-SQUID flux qubit from macroscopic resonant tunneling (MRT) rate measurements. The extracted noise spectral density is consistent with that of an ohmic environment up to frequencies $~$4 GHz. We have also derived an expression for the MRT line shape expected for a noise spectral density consisting of such a broadband ohmic component and an additional strongly peaked low-frequency component. This hybrid model provides an excellent fit to experimental data across a range of tunneling amplitudes and temperatures.
Coupling of heat flux and vortex polarization in superfluid helium
2020
We consider a macroscopic description of the mutual influence between heat flux and vortex polarization in superfluid helium, in which the vortices produce a lateral deviation of the heat flux, and the heat flux produces a lateral drift of vortices. This coupling is a consequence of a microscopic Magnus force and mutual friction force between the vortices and the flow of excitations carrying the heat. We keep track of these effects with simplified macroscopic equations, and we apply them to second sound propagation between rotating concentric cylinders and to spatial distribution of polarization across a rectangular channel with vortices polarized orthogonally to the channel in the presence…
Spin and charge orderings in the atomic limit of the U-V-J model
2011
In this paper we study a generalization of the 1D Hubbard model by considering density-density and Ising-type spin-spin nearest neighbor (NN) interactions, parameterized by $V$ and $J$, respectively. We present the T=0 phase diagram for both ferro ($J>0$) and anti-ferro ($J<0$) coupling obtained in the narrow-band limit by means of an extension to zero-temperature of the transfer-matrix method. Based on the values of the Hamiltonian parameters, we identify a number of phases that involve orderings of the double occupancy, NN density and spin correlations, being these latter very fragile.
