Protective Role of Conization Before Radical Hysterectomy in Early-Stage Cervical Cancer: A Propensity-Score Matching Study.
2021
Purpose: The purpose of this study was to assess the prognostic role and the perioperative outcomes of conization performed before radical hysterectomy in early-stage cervical carcinoma. Methods: This multicenter, retrospective observational cohort study included patients with FIGO 2009 stage IB1 cervical carcinoma treated with radical hysterectomy between June 2004 and June 2019. Patients were divided into two groups according to conization before radical surgery. One-to-one case–control matching was used to adjust the baseline characteristics. Results: A total of 332 patients were included after propensity matching (166, 50% in each group). Twenty-four of 166 (14.4%) and 142 of 166 (85.6%…
Islet beta-cell apoptosis triggered in vivo by interleukin-1beta is not related to the inducible nitric oxide synthase pathway: evidence for mitochon…
2003
IL-1beta is recognized as an effector cytokine contributing to islet beta-cell destruction during diabetes. We have previously shown in vitro that IL-1beta induces nitric oxide (NO) and beta-cell damage. Here, we show that IL-1beta administration in vivo to Wistar rats transiently increases manganese superoxide dismutase activity, whereas inducible NO synthase is not detected, and the levels of nitrate+nitrate do not change. Moreover, a significant decrease of mitochondrial aconitase, leading to a rise of hydroperoxides, and islet beta-cell apoptosis, involving caspase-3 and -8, is observed. Analysis of adhesion molecules in beta-cells showed that intercellular adhesion molecule-1 is highly…

Investigation on the stability of dispersion of zirconia nanoparticles prepared by microwave- hydrothermal synthesis
2005
Difficulties in reproducing the performances of nanoparticles dispersions are obstructive for the progress of the nanotechnology. A plausible reason for this variability is the lack of the control of the stability as well as the dimensions of the nanoparticles in the dispersions. In this work we report results of investigations on the stability of zirconia nanoparticles in aqueous medium, monitoring nanoparticles sizes by means of Transmission Electron Microscopy (TEM), Dynamic Light Scattering (DLS). Nanocrystalline zirconia powders, prepared by microwave-hydrothermal synthesis, were determined to be 6-8 nm in size by TEM observations. By using DLS technique the as-prepared dispersions wit…
O analogiji i teoriji etimona u hebrejskome biblijskom leksiku
2012
2018
Graphic modalities (emoticons, emoji, GIF…) are often presented as one of the distinctive features of computer-mediated interaction. In what may be the first reference book on computer-mediated communication (also known as CMC), American linguist Susan C. Herring goes as far as calling them a “unique feature” of digital interaction (Herring 1996, 3). Since then, many linguists have tempered this view and shown that graphic modalities are by no means specific to CMC. However, they remain one of its salient features. Are they, then, to be considered as an evolution or a revolution in interaction? The real question is indeed what they bring to computer-mediated communication, and their status …
Pactola kuscheli sp. nov. (Coleoptera: Curculionidae), a potential cause for the decline of the threatened New Caledonian conifer, Agathis montana de…
2017
Agathis montana is a conifer endemic to New Caledonia and one of the most threatened (Critically Endangered) plant species of this area. The exact causes of its decline are still unknown. The authors describe the characteristics of A. montana, the history and methodology of populatio nmonitoring, and possible factors causing the decline and habitat degradation. In 2014, some twigs showing symptoms suggesting attack by wood-boring insects were collected. From these, imagines of an unknown weevil species belonging to the genus Pactola Pascoe (Eugnomini)were reared. The new species is described as Pactola kuscheli Mazur sp. nov. Colour photographs of the dorsal habitus, line drawings of taxono…
