PATRIMONIO ARCHITETTONICO E TIMELESS TIME : PER UNA PERMANENZA TEMPORANEA
2018
From recovery manuals to historic and construction building information modeling (h-BIM). Strategies for historical Sicilian centres
2018
The virtual reconstruction of the minaret of Mansourah mosque (Algeria)
2015
This contribution synthetically addresses some of the photogrammetric solutions available today in the field of architectural-archaeological survey and the related applications outcome, evaluated during both the acquisition phase of metric data than in those of effective yield of refunds infographics. Therefore, we have focused on the virtual reconstruction of one of the most emblematic and symbolic building of the Algerian culture, the mosque of Mansourah, returning the minaret as it appeared before its partial collapse, namely correspondent in geometry, textures, and colours. The work is part of a larger research project to promote knowledge and dissemination of Algeria cultural heritage,…
People comfort and artwork saving in museums: comparing indoor requisites
2009
In museums, environmental indoor conditions should, contemporaneously, preserve the exhibited works of art and ensure the comfort conditions for people. Unfortunately, human and artworks requirements are characterised by different values of the physical indoor parameters that, occasionally, could become conflicting. In the paper, these problems are addressed by means of a literature analysis, with a specific attention to thermal comfort conditions of people. The possibility of finding common ranges of values for both requisites is finally discussed. Some recent technical recommendations on the matter have also been considered for indicating some HVAC equipment and appliances to be adopted i…
Diagnostics for the knowledge: the case of the tower of Palazzo Termine Pietragliata in Palermo (Italy)
2015
[EN] Developing a methodological approach is crucial to assess the state of conservation of a monument, starting from the overall analysis, progressively moving from small to medium scale and reaching the grand scale at the end. Considering the territory, causes are investigated in order to understand the propensities, as well as considering a single monument, evidences are carefully read to assess the overall conditions, that will be lately detailed by the analysis on materials and their degradation. The object of this study is the tower of the Palazzo Pietragliata in Palermo, one of the most important examples of the late Gothic civil architecture in Sicily. The Palace, built in 1473 by P…
AHBIM for Wooden Built Heritage Conservation
2019
The chapter investigates the potential offered by the Building Information Modeling for the conservation of the wooden architectural heritage. Based on the architectural survey, the BIM modeling of a South Tyrolean farm was carried out, with particular attention to the aspects related to its management and maintenance. Inside the database connected to the model, information about the building has been included, which can also be used on site through the use of mobile devices. The sharing of such information within a single platform avoids risks connected to the failure or incorrect transmission of data, allowing the optimization of the management, maintenance and conservation of the archite…
An integrated approach to architectural heritage conservation through preservation and accessibility
2015
Historical architecture preservation in an historic centre, shouldn’t leave out of consideration the analysis of the architecture itself , an analysis that acknowledges the original structure , the endless changes and the altering brought about by various needs of use as well as by natural phenomena and atmospheric events (earthquakes , pollution, anthropical damages). Historical buildings have also been damaged by the lack of understanding of these phenomena : further damages were caused by inadeguate laws (L.457/58) whose text is too old fashioned if we take into consideration the already settled notions on conservation . These notions are meant to provide : 1 - the ability to read these …
Acciones para mejorar la eficiencia energética en los edificios en Europa: estado del arte sobre los standards técnicos
2022
The paper is aimed at reviewing the state of the art of the European technical normative implementation during the last decades concerning the building energy efficiency. Indeed, it is well acknowledged that the present building stock is largely obsolete and inefficient: in the European context alone, around 75% of the buildings is not energy efficient and most are expected to be in use until 2050. Consequently, buildings require not only a general rehabilitation, to extend, or even avoid, its end-of-life time, but also a complete afterthought of their energy performance. That is extremely urgent to improve the overall sustainability of the construction sector that, alone, is one of the mai…
An innovative approach to manage uncertainties and stock diversity in the EPBD cost-optimal methodology
2018
The EU Energy Performance of Buildings Directive (EPBD) 2010/31/EU is a step in the right direction to promote near zero energy buildings (NZEB) in a step-wise manner, starting with minimum energy performance and cost optimal thresholds for “reference buildings” (RBs) for each category. Nevertheless, a standard method for defining RBs does not exist, which led to a great divergence between MS in the level of detail used to define RBs for the EPBD cost-optimal analysis. Such lack of harmonisation between MS is further evident given the resulting large discrepancies in energy performance indicators even between countries having similar climate. Furthermore, discrepancies of 30% or higher betw…
A methodological protocol for Annex I Habitats monitoring: the contribution of Vegetation science.
2016
The methodological foundations of the recently published Manual for Annex I Habitats monitoring in Italy, edited by the Italian Institute for Environmental Protection and Research (ISPRA) with the scientific support of the Italian Society for Vegetation Science (SISV), are here presented, discussed and related to the most consolidated and acknowledged scientific advances in the field of Vegetation science. The proposed methodologies aim at offering simple, yet effective, protocols and procedures towards a harmonized data collection, by way of standardized and shared technical tools, resulting in comparable evaluations of the conservation status of Annex I Habitats. The methodological framew…
