Force Concept Inventory-based multiple-choice test for investigating students’ representational consistency

2010

This study investigates students' ability to interpret multiple representations consistently (i.e., representational consistency) in the context of the force concept. For this purpose we developed the Representational Variant of the Force Concept Inventory (R-FCI), which makes use of nine items from the 1995 version of the Force Concept Inventory (FCI). These original FCI items were redesigned using various representations (such as motion map, vectorial and graphical), yielding 27 multiple-choice items concerning four central concepts underpinning the force concept: Newton's first, second, and third laws, and gravitation. We provide some evidence for the validity and reliability of the R-FC…

Psychometric properties of the Spanish version of the Temporal Satisfaction with Life Scale (TSLS): A study on elderly attending to university progra…

2015

Several measures have been developed for the operalization of well-being, standing out the Satisfaction With Life Scale (SWLS). To cope with some of its problems the Temporal Satisfaction with Life Scale (TSLS) was developed. The aim of this study is to present and validate the Spanish version of the TSLS, in a sample elderly attending to University programs. The sample was composed of 737 elderly. Together with the TSLS, an indicator of general life satisfaction and the SF-8 Health Scale were used. Analyses included the study of factorial validity, estimations of reliability and external validity. Results of the confirmatory factor analysis were adequate: χ2(87)=454.593 (p<.001), CFI=.9…

Nonstationary flow surface theory for modeling the viscoplastic behaviors of soils

2016

Abstract This paper presents a three-dimensional elastic viscoplastic model that can describe the time-dependent behaviors of soft clays. The constitutive model is formulated based on the nonstationary flow surface theory and incorporates new developments, including (i) an improved definition of the nonstationary flow surface that is capable of capturing the stress–strain behaviors under different loading paths, (ii) a unique stress–strain—viscoplastic-strain-rate equation that is able to explicitly describe the nonstationary flow surface, and (iii) a final stable state concept that identifies the final equilibrium state at the end of creep and stress relaxation, which is also used to simpl…

A Models-to-Program Information Systems Engineering Method

2021

The Model-Driven Development paradigm aims to represent all the information system features through models. Conceptual-Model Programming offers a similar approach, but with a focus on automatic code generation. Both approaches consider modeling and traceability of different abstraction levels, where each level can be tackled with different modeling methods. This heterogeneity introduces a challenge for the quality of the traceability and transformations among models, especially when aiming for automatic code generation. In this paper, we introduce a holistic conceptual-model programming method to generate code from different abstraction levels (from the problem space to the solution space),…

Measuring job stress in transportation workers: psychometric properties, convergent validity and reliability of the ERI and JCQ among professional dr…

2021

Abstract Background The accumulated evidence has shown how professional drivers are, in psychosocial terms, among the most vulnerable workforces, and how their crashes (some of them preceded by stressful working conditions) constitute both an occupational and public health concern. However, there is a clear lack of validated tools for measuring stress and other key hazardous issues affecting transport workers, and most of the existing ones, frequently generic, do not fully consider the specific features that properly describe the work environment of professional driving. This study assessed the psychometric properties, convergent validity and consistency of two measures used for researching…

Actitudes hacia la estadística en estudiantes de Ciencias de la Educación : propiedades psicométricas de la versión española del Survey of Attitudes …

2019

The study of attitudes towards statistics is a topic which has aroused the interest of researchers in different countries and at teaching levels. In this work we present an analysis of the psychometric properties, in terms of structural validity and internal consistency, of a Spanish version of the Survey of Attitudes Towards Statistics (SATS-36) administered to education students. The results obtained from the 409 participants indicate a lack of fit for the six-factor model proposed by the authors of the SATS, especially compared with the five-factor model with corrected mistakes that the authors of this work propose. These results coincide with what has been defended by other investigatio…

Distributed ASM - Pitfalls and solutions

2014

Published version of a chapter in the book: Abstract State Machines, Alloy, B, TLA, VDM, and Z. Also available from the publisher at: http://dx.doi.org/10.1007/978-3-662-43652-3_18 While sequential Abstract State Machines (ASM) capture the essence of sequential computation, it is not clear that this is true of distributed ASM. This paper looks at two kinds of distributed process, one based on a global state and one based on variable access. Their commonalities are extracted and conclusions for the general understanding of distributed computation are drawn, providing integration between global state and variable access.

2018

Recently, two forms of virtue-related humor, benevolent and corrective, have been introduced. Benevolent humor treats human weaknesses and wrongdoings benevolently, while corrective humor aims at correcting and bettering them. Twelve marker items for benevolent and corrective humor (the BenCor) were developed, and it was demonstrated that they fill the gap between humor as temperament and virtue. The present study investigates responses to the BenCor from 25 samples in 22 countries (overall N = 7,226). The psychometric properties of the BenCor were found to be sufficient in most of the samples, including internal consistency, unidimensionality, and factorial validity. Importantly, benevolen…
