Acoustic properties and perception of minimal contrasts in Valencian Catalan sibilants

El valencià estàndard presenta tres consonants fricatives sibilants: /s/, /z/ i /S/.Mentre que el contrast entre /z/ i /s/ sembla indiscutible, l’existència d’unaoposició real entre /S/ i /s/ és més dubtosa. Spelling in Finnish : the case of the double consonant

Because of its regularity, it is relatively easy to learn to read and spell in Finnish. However, a specific hurdle in spelling acquisition seems to be the doubling of consonant letters. In this study on consonant letter doubling spelling in Finnish children (91 Grade 1 and 191 Grade 2 children), we asked two questions. Herewe examined whether some components of a word's letters (midsegments, junctions, terminals) are more important than others. To that end,we conducted two lexical decision experiments using a delayed segment techniquewith lowercase stimuli. Aquesta tesi se centra en l’estudi del contrast entre les sibilants fricatives sordes /s/ i /ʃ/ en valencià, que ha generat un debat intens en la bibliografia. El treball pretén assolir tres objectius bàsics. El primer objectiu és determinar com es realitza el contrast entre /s/ i /ʃ/ per part de joves valencianoparlants. Any investigation into the achievements accomplished by the ancient Greeks in acoustics needs to start off with the development of the Pythagorean theory of music with special reference to the relations between music and mathematics which the theory establishes. Much more than bare indications allows the author to infer that the results of Pythagorean research into this field were applied to speech sounds. Pythagorean musical research is therefore presupposed by the study among the ancient Greeks of the acoustic phenomenology of the human voice and the physiology of the organs serving the purpose of producing it.

L'articolo ha come obiettivo l'elaborazione di una proposta di trascrizione fonetica delle consonanti semipalatalizzate in ucraino per mezzo dei simboli dell'Alfabeto fonetico internazionale, da usare nei manuali destinati agli studenti stranieri. Vengono prese in considerazione diverse problematiche, tra cui: la limitatezza dei mezzi grafici dell'alfabeto fonetico per esprimere alcune particolarità della correlazione palatale; la resa ortografica delle semi-palatalizzate in ucraino e la sua corrispondenza alla loro pronuncia comune; la tendenza di alcune consonanti palatalizzate all'indurimento e i diversi modi di pronunciare le semi-palatalizzate.
