3D Reconstruction of Dynamic Vehicles using Sparse 3D-Laser-Scanner and 2D Image Fusion

2016

International audience; Map building becomes one of the most interesting research topic in computer vision field nowadays. To acquire accurate large 3D scene reconstructions, 3D laser scanners are recently developed and widely used. They produce accurate but sparse 3D point clouds of the environments. However, 3D reconstruction of rigidly moving objects along side with the large-scale 3D scene reconstruction is still lack of interest in many researches. To achieve a detailed object-level 3D reconstruction, a single scan of point cloud is insufficient due to their sparsity. For example, traditional Iterative Closest Point (ICP) registration technique or its variances are not accurate and rob…

Object, problem, or subject?: A child with a disability as found in reports of professionals

2009

This study examined the representations of one Finnish child with disabilities as constructed in reports written by professionals. The professional action models which appeared in the discourse of the reports were also explored. The theoretical framework of the study was based on the social constructionist approach. Research data consisted of 145 documents, the analyses of which were based on critical discourse analysis developed by Fairclough (1992). Results indicated that the child with a disability was constructed in the documents in varying ways, either as an object, a problem, or a subject Professional expertise, mechanistic and objectivist practices, and seeing disability as an indivi…

Comparison of problem solving tools in lean organizations

2017

As global market competition is getting fiercer, and companies are looking at ways to stay on top, more and more organizations are looking at Lean Manufacturing and lean tools to support them in achieving their goals. Especially within the automotive industry, lean practices are very well received. The speed at which the automotive industry is evolving, especially but not only, in countries like Romania, leads to the need to carefully analyze lean manufacturing concepts, examine them against local production conditions, and to develop and standardize them. One of the most important things to take into consideration here is the application of an adequate problem solving technique to avoid wa…

Are Non-Special Dimensions of Proximity in Local Clusters Related? An Analysis of 99 European Clusters

2022

The destructive effects of industries on the environment are the most crucial reason for the need for firms’ proximity to developing innovative activities such as corporate sustainability. However, most prior efforts have focused on the role of different types of proximity in cluster performances, not the relationship among them. Therefore, this study intends to go one step back, discuss the inter-relationships between different types of proximity, and propose them in a conceptual model as the antecedents of corporate sustainability. These factors are known as the non-specific dimensions of proximity within local clusters: cognitive, organisational, institutional, and social, which received…

Which Landscape for Which Community? Opportunities and Pitfalls in the Application of the European Landscape Convention in Uncollaborative Context

2023

Are green bonds a different asset class? Evidence from time-frequency connectedness analysis

2021

Abstract This paper investigates the time-frequency connectedness across the global green bond market and several mainstream financial and energy markets in an attempt to figure out whether green bonds represent a different asset class. The connectedness methodology proposed by Barunik and Křehlik (2018) is employed for that purpose. This approach enables quantifying the dynamics of connectedness in terms of return and volatility over time and across time scales simultaneously. The empirical results indicate that connectedness between the global green bond market and the conventional financial and energy markets mainly occurs at shorter time horizons, suggesting that shocks are rapidly tran…

Assessing the economic profitability of Paulownia as a biomass crop in Southern Mediterranean area

2022

The increase of renewable energy production worldwide, occurred in the last years, is also attributable to some agroforestry species cultivated according to the short rotation coppice technique. Although these species are able of enhancing abandoned or marginal land leading to numerous environmental benefits, an increasing number of farmers are introducing them in place of agricultural crops. Therefore, since for a farmer economic sustainability is one of the main factors to introduce a biomass crop, the study aimed at evaluating the profitability of Paulownia, a species that has been spreading in recent years. In particular, an economic analysis has been carried out in a Southern Italian f…

Industrial Symbiosis: A Mechanism to Guarantee the Implementation of Circular Economy Practices

2022

There is a growing concern regarding the scarcity of natural resources. The levels of resource exploitation generated by the current system of production and consumption has led the European Commission to develop a set of guidelines that aim to reduce the pressure on natural resources. The set of guidelines proposed by the European Union is based on the transformation of the current linear economic system into a circular system in which resources and materials remain in the production system for longer. However, for this change to take effect, practical measures are required. This paper presents an industrial symbiosis approach as a practical application of a circular economy model. The aim…
