Results of isolated posterolateral corner reconstruction
2010
Abstract Background Isolated posterolateral corner (PLC) tears are relatively rare events. Various surgical techniques to treat posterolateral knee instability have been described; because surgical results are linked to cruciate reconstructions it has been difficult to date to define whether one surgical procedure has better prognosis than another. The goal of this study is to determine the clinical outcome of PLC reconstruction following fibular-based technique. Materials and methods We retrospectively evaluated a case series of patients who received isolated PLC reconstruction between March 2005 and January 2007. Ten patients were surgically treated for isolated injuries and were availabl…
La cornice Ionica del tempio G di Selinunte. Rilievo e interpretazione per la ricostruzione virtuale.
2013
This research is focused on the virtual reconstruction of the Ionic cornice of temple G of Selinunte, as a case study for the definition of a virtual reconstruction method of collapsed walls elements in archaeological contexts. The complexity of the ruins of the temple suggested a thorough archaeological analysis of the fragments of the Ionic cornice that made it possible to identify traces of the construction process left by stonecutters during the worksite such as unfinished surfaces. The study of these surfaces, together with the dimensional data surveyed, provided the information to reposition the fragments in their supposed original position, and thus develop a virtual reconstruction o…
Sustainability in executive remuneration : A missing link towards more sustainable firms?
2021
This paper contributes by showing simultaneously the interlinked challenges of sustainability-based (based on long-term economic, social and environmental targets) executive remuneration and the problems of transparency in remuneration reporting. Our empirical data, analyzed using qualitative content analysis, consists of the published remuneration statements and sustainability reports of 43 Finnish companies reporting according to the Global Reporting Initiative (GRI) framework. Our results indicate that comprehensive sustainability remuneration is still rare in Finnish large companies: long-term financial targets are implemented at most companies, but social or environmental targets were …
The Press as a Resource for Promoting Sustainability Competencies in Teacher Training: The Case of SDG 7
2022
Given the seriousness of the socio-environmental situation we are facing, this study aims to contribute to the involvement of teachers in education for sustainability through the use of non-formal education, particularly the press. The main objectives of the present study are to analyse the use of the press in science education, as well as the design, implementation and evaluation of tools aimed at teachers and trainee researchers in order to encourage and promote attention to the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and more specifically SDG 7 (clean and affordable energy for all) in science education. The proposals are carried out using a constructivist methodology in sessions structured …
Hemp: past, present, future for a Sustainable Architecture
2020
Cannabis, so classified by the botanist Linnaeus in 1753, is a plant with a long and tormented history. It has been a source of subsistence for many peoples who, since the dawn of time, have exploited its enormous and almost infinite potential. Hemp has survived eighty years of prohibition and the fierce attacks of the chemical, pharmaceutical, textile and other industries, which over the years have monopolized the world economy, contributing significantly to the process of ecosystem degeneration of the planet. Today, in the light of the compelling and urgent intervention actions, aimed at contrasting environmental emergencies, hemp returns to peep globally to help create a sustainable mode…
SUSTAINABLE ARCHITECTURE: THE ECO-EFFICIENCY EARTH CONSTRUCTION
2017
The appropriate choice of building materials can contribute decisively to reduce the energy consumption of the building sector. The increasing worries for the environmental impact of construction materials is witnessed by a lot of studies The mentioned worries has brought again the attention towards natural materials. The use of more sustainable construction materials and construction techniques represent a major contribution to the eco-efficiency of the construction industry and thus to a more sustainable development. Within this frame the renewed interest for a natural material such as the rammed earth is included; the interest has been in continuous growth from the 80s till today. The ra…
Policies to enhance social development through the promotion of SME and social entrepreneurship: a study in the Colombian construction industry
2016
[EN] The intent of this research is to propose and analyse a set of policies in the construction industry to enhance social development. Smart Sustainable Development Approach and its Implementation in Engineering Organizations
2014
This paper explores the concept of sustainability in engineering systems and proposes a smart conceptual framework for engineering organization development. Sustainability is a critically complex goal for enterprise activity and development. Sustainability in the engineering area requires a comprehensive and continue approach because, a) engineering activities are ubiquitous in society, b) of the high importance of engineering applications in the development of the companies and of the world, and c) technological support becomes imminent in a dynamic economic environment and sustained in large part by technological advances. This paper aims to provide to the engineering environment a smart …
Building Energy Performance: A LCA Case Study of kenaf-fibres insulation board
2008
Abstract The paper presents a life cycle assessment of a kenaf-fibre insulation board following the international standards of the ISO 14040 series. Each life-cycle step has been checked, from kenaf production and board manufacture by an Italian firm, to use and disposal. The aim is to assess the board eco-profile and to compare, on the basis of a life-cycle approach, the energy and environmental benefits and drawbacks related to its employment into a typical residential dwelling. A comparison among various insulating materials has been carried out. The study focuses also on processes and input materials which cause the main environmental impacts of the product, and points out critical issu…
La Responsabilidad Social de la Educación Superior como Bien Común. Concepto y desafíos
2018
