Polycaprolactone/gelatin-based scaffolds with tailored performance: in vitro and in vivo validation

Abstract Nanofibrous scaffolds composed of polycaprolactone (PCL) and gelatin (Ge) were obtained through a hydrolytic assisted electrospinning process. The PCL-to-Ge proportion (100/0 to 20/80), as well as the dissolution time (24, 48, 72, 96, 120 h) into a 1:1 formic/acetic acid solvent before electrospinning were modified to obtain the different samples. A strong influence of these factors on the physicochemical properties of the scaffolds was observed. Higher Ge percentage reduced crystallinity, allowed a uniform morphology and increased water contact angle. Optical Coherence Tomography (OCT) is a noninvasive, high-speed, high-resolution imaging technology based in the Michaelson interferometry. A near-infrared light beam is used to register the intensity variations for the light backscattered on each sample layer. Due to the high repeatability on corneal measurements, spectral domain OCT (SD-OCT) is the gold standard when talking about in vivo, non-invasive anterior segment imaging. Abstract The use of photocatalytic products for the surface coating of buildings is spreading more and more, because of the reduction of atmospheric pollutants and the colour maintenance of the paints over time with reduction of the maintenance costs and the improvement of the aesthetic appearance. Pore shape affects the determination of the pore size of ordered mesoporous silicas by mercury intrusion.

MCM-41 and SBA-15 micelle-templated silicas are ideal reference materials to study the effect of surface roughness on pore size measurement by mercury intrusion, as the inner surface of the mesoporous channels is much rougher in the case of SBA-15 than MCM-41. In the case of MCM-41, the pressure of mercury intrusion is related to the pore size by the classical Washburn−Laplace law, while in the case of SBA-15, the pressure of intrusion is much higher than expected and classical models underevaluate the size of the channels. On-chip purification via liquid immersion of arc-discharge synthesized multiwalled carbon nanotubes

Arc-discharge synthesized multiwalled carbon nanotubes (AD-MWNT) have been proven to be of high quality, but their use is very limited due to difficulties in obtaining them in a clean and undamaged form. Here, we present a simple method that purifies raw AD-MWNT material in laboratory scale without damage, and that in principle can be scaled up. The method consists of depositing raw AD-MWNT material on a flat substrate and immersing the substrate slowly in water, whereby the surface tension force of the liquid–substrate contact line selectively sweeps away the larger amorphous carbon debris and leaves relatively clean MWNTs on the substrate. Biological processes for wastewater treatments are inherently dynamic systems because of the large variations in the influent wastewater flow rate, concentration composition and the adaptive behavior of the involved microorganisms. Non-parametric mean curvature flow with prescribed contact angle in Riemannian products

Assuming that there exists a translating soliton $u_\infty$ with speed $C$ in a domain $\Omega$ and with prescribed contact angle on $\partial\Omega$, we prove that a graphical solution to the mean curvature flow with the same prescribed contact angle converges to $u_\infty +Ct$ as $t\to\infty$. We also generalize the recent existence result of Gao, Ma, Wang and Weng to non-Euclidean settings under suitable bounds on convexity of $\Omega$ and Ricci curvature in $\Omega$.
