Project Method in Adult Education: Self-Experience Analysis

2015

<p><em>The </em><em>project methodhas swiftly gained ground in education and it has nowbecome integral to the education process offering new ways for modernizing the education environment.Implementing projects provides learning opportunities for all of the involved parties – students, teachers, school principals and parents. In this article the Author has analysed the characteristics of the project method and the differences between project-based adult learningand non-adult learning, and the impact ofglobalization on projects. Projects can be implemented not only in the scope of specific subjects or specific schools but also as cooperation projects among schools of di…

Results from a prospective observational study of men with premature ejaculation treated with dapoxetine or alternative care: The PAUSE study

2014

Abstract Background Dapoxetine hydrochloride is a selective serotonin reuptake inhibitor and the first drug approved for the on-demand treatment of premature ejaculation (PE). Its safety was established in a thorough clinical development program. Objective To characterize the safety profile of dapoxetine in PE treatment and to report the incidence, severity, and type of adverse events. Design, setting, and participants We conducted a 12-wk, open-label, observational study with a 4-wk, postobservational contact. A total of 10 028 patients were enrolled, with 6712 patients (67.6%) treated with dapoxetine 30–60mg (group A)and 3316 (32.4%) treated with alternative care/nondapoxetine (group B). …

Prospective multicenter trial of capsule endoscopy in patients with chronic abdominal pain, diarrhea and other signs and symptoms (CEDAP-Plus Study)

2007

Background On the basis of the published data, capsule endoscopy cannot be recommended in patients whose only symptom is chronic abdominal pain. The present study therefore focused on the diagnostic yield of capsule endoscopy in patients with chronic abdominal pain who were also suffering from additional symptoms. Patients and methods A total of 50 patients with chronic abdominal pain, plus other symptoms singly or in combination were enrolled in this prospective multicenter trial. The "plus" symptoms or signs consisted of weight loss (> 10 % of body weight), inflammation shown by laboratory tests, chronic anemia, or suspected mid-gastrointestinal bleeding. Chronic diarrhea was recorded if …

Supraventricular arrhythmias in noncompaction of left ventricle: Is this a frequent complication?

2008

Background: Isolated left ventricular noncompaction is the result of incomplete myocardial morphogenesis, leading to persistence of the embryonic myocardium. The condition is recognised by an excessively prominent trabecular meshwork and deep intertrabecular recesses of the left ventricle. Whether these intertrabecular recesses are a favorable substrate for supraventricular arrhythmias is unclear, even if the incidence of chronic heart failure seems to be high. Results: We evaluated a continuous series of 238 patients affected by noncompaction. In 4 cases the patients reported palpitations and in 4 an episode of syncope. Periodic holter monitoring was performed every 6 months for 4 years. O…

Subtemporal Keyhole Approach to the Suprasellar and Petroclival Region: Microanatomic Considerations and Clinical Application

1997

OBJECTIVE: To minimize surgical invasiveness, the keyhole concept is applied to the subtemporal approach. METHODS: Anatomic features were studied in 14 sides of adult cadaver heads, and the technique was used in 162 interventions. Although most of the lesions treated were 3 cm in size or smaller, larger lesions were also treated using this technique. In some cases, if needed, an endoscope-assisted microsurgical technique was used. RESULTS: The cadaveric study provided intimate experience with the microsurgical anatomy of the approach. The 162 consecutive patients who were operated on harbored various types of lesions; the most recent 43 consecutive interventions were investigated in detail.…

Effect of exercise on myosteatosis in adults: a systematic review and meta-analysis

2020

Muscle tissue typically contains only small amounts of adipose tissue, and the excess deposition of adiposity is considered a pathological phenomenon termed myosteatosis. Several studies have assessed the effects of exercise alone on the severity of myosteatosis, and some studies have reported promising results. We performed a systematic review and meta-analysis to investigate the effects of exercise interventions on myosteatosis (i.e., lipid infiltration and muscle radiation attenuation). Studies were identified through a systematic search of three databases and limited to randomized controlled trials (RCTs) focused on evaluating the effect of exercise interventions on lipid infiltration a…

Diagnosis of pre-sarcopenia from a single selectional crosscut at C3 region, using CT scans before radiotherapy

2019

Age-associated changes in skeletal muscles and their effect on mobility: an operational diagnosis of sarcopenia.

2003

Sarcopenia, the reduction of muscle mass and strength that occurs with aging, is widely considered one of the major causes of disability in older persons. Surprisingly, criteria that may help a clinician to identify persons with impaired muscle function are still lacking. Using data from a large representative sample of the general population, we examined how muscle function and calf muscle area change with aging and affect mobility in men and women free of neurological conditions. We tested several putative indicators of sarcopenia, including knee extension isometric torque, handgrip, lower extremity muscle power, and calf muscle area. For each indicator, sarcopenia was considered to be p…
