Triblock SEBS/DVB crosslinked and sulfonated membranes: Fuel cell performance and conductivity
2021
[EN] A set of styrene-ethylene-butylene-styrene triblock copolymer (SEBS) membranes with 10 or 25 wt.% divinyl-benzene (DVB) as a crosslinking agent were prepared and validated. Physicochemical characterization revealed suitable hydrolytic and thermal stability of photo-crosslinked membranes containing 25%wt. DVB and post-sulfonated. These compositions were evaluated in H2/O2 single cells, and electrical and proton conductivities were furtherly assessed. The membranes with the milder post-sulfonation showed greater proton conductivity than those with excessive sulfonation. In terms of electrical conductivity, a universal power law was applied, and the values obtained were low enough for bei…

Dispersion Copolymerization of Vinyl Monomers in Supercritical Carbon Dioxide.
2003
The thermally initiated free-radical dispersion copolymerization of methyl methacrylate (MMA) and N,N-dimethylacrylamide (DMA) in supercritical carbon dioxide has been studied in the presence of polysiloxane surfactants. The formation of a stable latex seems to be related to the presence of at least one reactive end group in the surfactant macromolecule, thus suggesting that anchoring of the stabilizer to the surface of the growing polymer particles occurs through chemical grafting. In the case of a molar ratio of DMA to MMA lower than 0.40, microspherical copolymer particles with yields ranging from 81 to 97% were collected from batch polymerizations carried out at 65 °C and 23-28 MPa usin…
Investigation of thermal stability of ethylene copolymers with POSS - Study under static and dynamic conditions
2018
Abstract In the paper there was studied thermal stability of a series of ethylene copolymers with monoalkenylsiloxy- or monoalkenylsilsesquioxanes (POSS) under dynamic and static conditions. The copolymers proved to be more thermally stable than neat polyethylene and neat silsesquioxane comonomers. The kind and the content of the POSS units significantly affected degradation of the copolymers. Thermal oxidation process resulted in structural changes of the (co)polymers as it was evidenced by the variations in the kind and content of carbonyl, as well as by unsaturated end groups. Depending on the structure of the POSS comonomer incorporated into the polymer chain, the silsesquioxane units o…

Pancreatic islet transplantation is a promising advanced therapy that has been used to treat patients suffering from diabetes type 1. Traditionally, pancreatic islets are infused via the portal vein, which is subsequently intended to engraft in the liver. Severe immunosuppressive treatments are necessary, however, to prevent rejection of the transplanted islets. Novel approaches therefore have focused on encapsulation of the islets in biomaterial implants which can protect the islets and offer an organ-like environment. Vascularization of the device’s surface is a prerequisite for the survival and proper func- tioning of transplanted pancreatic islets. We are pursuing a prevascularization s…
