Nitric oxide and glutathione impact the expression of iron uptake- and iron transport-related genes as well as the content of metals in A. thaliana p…

2012

International audience; Mounting evidence indicate that nitric oxide (NO) acts as a signaling molecule mediating iron deficiency responses through the upregulation of the expression of iron uptake-related genes. Accordingly, NO donors such as nitrosoglutathione (GSNO) were reported to improve the fitness of plants grown under iron deficiency. Here, we showed that glutathione, a by-product of GSNO, triggered the upregulation of the expression of iron uptake- and transport-related gene and an increase of iron concentration in Arabidopsis thaliana seedlings facing iron deficiency. Furthermore, we provided evidence that under iron deficiency, NO released by GSNO did not improve the root iron co…

Microstructure and mechanical properties of dissimilar Ti/Nb/Cu/steel laser joints

2020

Abstract The absence of intermetallic phases in Fe/Cu, Cu/Nb and Nb/Ti binary systems opens the possibility to obtain reliable joints between titanium alloys and steels by using a multimaterial copper/niobium insert. Continuous Yb:YAG laser welding of 1 mm thick titanium and 316L stainless steel plates through niobium/copper multimaterial insert was performed. The use of a 100 µm laser beam allowed producing isolated molten zones and thus completely avoiding the formation of brittle intermetallic phases, according to SEM and XRD analysis. The effect of energy per unit length applied to the niobium/copper welds on the mixing process and mechanical properties of the joints was investigated. A…

On the optimization of the cutting conditions for an improved corrosion resistance of OFHC copper

2018

International audience; Machining has a particular impact on the surface integrity and on corrosion resistance of components. In fact, material removal induces geometrical, mechanical and micro-structural modifications in the machined surface and sub-surface that alter the electrochemical behavior of the material, and so the aging process. In this study, oxygen free high conductivity copper (OFHC) has machined under orthogonal cutting conditions using uncoated cemented carbide tools. Then, the corrosion resistance in 0.1 M NaCl salt fog atmosphere of the machined samples is analyzed. Finally, the optimal cutting conditions, including the tool geometry, for an improved corrosion resistance a…

Influence of residual stress, surface roughness and crystallographic texture induced by machining on the corrosion behaviour of copper in salt-fog at…

2012

International audience; The influence of quadratic stress, crystallographic texture, lubrication and surface roughness generated by superfinish turning on the corrosion behaviour of pure copper was quantified in salt-fog atmosphere. This was done using statistical analysis (Pearson's correlation matrix). Three compounds were found after corrosion tests: atacamite/paratacamite and a black layer (mixture of the lubricant and the salt atmosphere). Surface characteristics were classified according to their decreasing influence on the formation of atacamite/paratacamite as follows: surface roughness and quadratic stress. Lubrication and the crystallographic texture have the lowest influence on c…

Friction Model for Tool/Work Material Contact Applied to Surface Integrity Prediction in Orthogonal Cutting Simulation

2017

Abstract Tribological behavior at both tool/chip and tool/work material interfaces should be highly considered while simulating the machining process. In fact, it is no longer accurate to suppose one independent constant friction coefficient at the tool/chip interface, since in reality it depends on the applied contact conditions, including the sliding velocity and pressure. The contact conditions at both above mentioned interfaces may affect the thermal and mechanical phenomena and consequently the surface integrity predictions. In this article, the influence of contact conditions (sliding velocity) on the tribological behavior of uncoated tungsten carbide tool against OFHC copper work mat…

Genomic characterization of a local epidemic Pseudomonas aeruginosa reveals specific features of the widespread clone ST395

2017

International audience; Pseudomonas aeruginosa is a ubiquitous opportunistic pathogen with several clones being frequently associated with outbreaks in hospital settings. ST395 is among these so-called 'international' clones. We aimed here to define the biological features that could have helped the implantation and spread of the clone ST395 in hospital settings. The complete genome of a multidrug resistant index isolate (DHS01) of a large hospital outbreak was analysed. We identified DHS01-specific genetic elements, among which were identified those shared with a panel of six independent ST395 isolates responsible for outbreaks in other hospitals. DHS01 has the fifth largest chromosome of …

Genetics of Wilson disease and Wilson-like phenotype in a clinical series from eastern Spain.

2019

Wilson's disease (WD) is an autosomal recessive disorder caused by ATP7B mutations. Subjects with only one mutation may show clinical signs and individuals with biallelic changes may remain asymptomatic. We aimed to achieve a conclusive genetic diagnosis for 34 patients clinically diagnosed of WD. Genetic analysis comprised from analysis of exons to WES (whole exome sequencing), including promoter, introns, UTRs (untranslated regions), besides of study of large deletions/duplications by MLPA (multiplex ligation-dependent probe amplification). Biallelic ATP7B mutations were identified in 30 patients, so that four patients were analyzed using WES. Two affected siblings resulted to be compound…

Diversity, evolution, and function of myriapod hemocyanins.

2018

Background Hemocyanin transports O2 in the hemolymph of many arthropod species. Such respiratory proteins have long been considered unnecessary in Myriapoda. As a result, the presence of hemocyanin in Myriapoda has long been overlooked. We analyzed transcriptome and genome sequences from all major myriapod taxa – Chilopoda, Diplopoda, Symphyla, and Pauropoda – with the aim of identifying hemocyanin-like proteins. Results We investigated the genomes and transcriptomes of 56 myriapod species and identified 46 novel full-length hemocyanin subunit sequences in 20 species of Chilopoda, Diplopoda, and Symphyla, but not Pauropoda. We found in Cleidogona sp. (Diplopoda, Chordeumatida) a hemocyanin-…

Copper/MYC/CTR1 interplay: A dangerous relationship in hepatocellular carcinoma

2018

Free serum copper correlates with tumor incidence and progression of human cancers, including hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC). Copper extracellular uptake is provided by the transporter CTR1, whose expression is regulated to avoid excessive intracellular copper entry. Inadequate copper serum concentration is involved in the pathogenesis of Non Alcoholic Fatty Liver Disease (NAFLD), which is becoming a major cause of liver damage progression and HCC incidence. Finally, MYC is over-expressed in most of HCCs and is a critical regulator of cellular growth, tumor invasion and metastasis. The purpose of our study was to understand if higher serum copper concentrations might be involved in the prog…
